XPL the Extensible Presentation Language

2009

The last decade has witnessed a growing interest in the development of web interfaces enabling both multiple ways to access contents and, at the same time, fruition by multiple modalities of interaction (point-and-click, contents reading, voice commands, gestures, etc.). In this paper we describe a framework aimed at streamlining the design process of multi-channel, multimodal interfaces enabling full reuse of software components. This framework is called the eXtensible Presentation architecture and Language (XPL), a presentation language based on design pattern paradigm that keeps separated the presentation layer from the underlying programming logic. The language supplies a methodology to…

Mobile social networking in theory and practice

2008

Mobile social networks have gained the attention of the media, academy and mobile market. Despite of the robust tradition of network and community studies, mobile social networks are often addressed improperly. This paper presents a theoretical framework to study mobile social networking and examines the design implications of results of an exploratory study conducted with a group of 18 young adults in Finland. The findings of this study indicate that the quality of mobile applications offering social networking could be greatly increased by integrating the knowledge of two traditions that so far developed in parallel, namely the mathematical as well as social approaches to social networks.

Effects of self-myofascial release: A systematic review.

2015

Summary Background Self-myofascial release (SMFR) is a type of myofascial release performed by the individual themselves rather than by a clinician, typically using a tool. Objectives To review the literature regarding studies exploring acute and chronic clinical effects of SMFR. Methods PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched during February 2015 for studies containing words related to the topic of SMFR. Results Acutely, SMFR seems to increase flexibility and reduce muscle soreness but does not impede athletic performance. It may lead to improved arterial function, improved vascular endothelial function, and increased parasympathetic nervous system activity acutely, which could b…

Voxel-based General Voronoi Diagram for Complex Data with Application on Motion Planning

2020

One major challenge in Assembly Sequence Planning (ASP) for complex real-world CAD-scenarios is to find appropriate disassembly paths for all assembled parts. Such a path places demands on its length and clearance. In the past, it became apparent that planning the disassembly path based on the (approximate) General Voronoi Diagram (GVD) is a good approach to achieve these requirements. But for complex real-world data, every known solution for computing the GVD is either too slow or very memory consuming, even if only approximating the GVD.We present a new approach for computing the approximate GVD and demonstrate its practicability using a representative vehicle data set. We can calculate a…

Complex Formation between Polyelectrolytes and Oppositely Charged Oligoelectrolytes

2016

We study the complex formation between one long polyanion chain and many short oligocation chains by computer simulations. We employ a coarse-grained bead-spring model for the polyelectrolyte chains, and model explicitly the small salt ions. We systematically vary the concentration and the length of the oligocation, and examine how the oligocations affects the chain conformation, the static structure factor, the radial and axial distribution of various charged species, and the number of bound ions in the complex. At low oligocation concentration, the polyanion has an extended structure. Upon increasing the oligocation concentration, the polyanion chain collapses and forms a compact globule,…

Influence of Background Knowledge and Language Proficiency on Comprehension of Domain-Specific Texts by University Students

2019

This paper presents the results of a quantitative study that explores two factors contributing to reading comprehension of domain specific texts, namely level of language proficiency and background knowledge. Overall, 32 students participated in the study by taking two custom-designed reading comprehension tests. The test scores were further  analyzed using SPSS statistical software. The results of statistical tests revealed the differences between study groups as well as the effects of compensation. More precisely, the most proficient group scored higher on almost all tests and completed the tests more quickly than the remaining groups. The statistical tools used to test the data showed th…

Computation of Yvon-Villarceau circles on Dupin cyclides and construction of circular edge right triangles on tori and Dupin cyclides

2014

Ring Dupin cyclides are non-spherical algebraic surfaces of degree four that can be defined as the image by inversion of a ring torus. They are interesting in geometric modeling because: (1) they have several families of circles embedded on them: parallel, meridian, and Yvon-Villarceau circles, and (2) they are characterized by one parametric equation and two equivalent implicit ones, allowing for better flexibility and easiness of use by adopting one representation or the other, according to the best suitability for a particular application. These facts motivate the construction of circular edge triangles lying on Dupin cyclides and exhibiting the aforementioned properties. Our first contr…

Generic attribute deviation metric for assessing mesh simplification algorithm quality

2002

International audience; This paper describes an efficient method to compare two triangular meshes. Meshes considered here contain geometric features as well as other surface attributes such as material colors, texture, temperature, radiation, etc. Two deviation measurements are presented to assess the differences between two meshes. The first measurement, called geometric deviation, returns geometric differences. The second measurement , called attribute deviation, returns attribute differences regardless of the attribute type. In this paper we present an application of this method to the Mesh Simplification Algorithm (MSA) quality assessment according to the appearance attributes. This ass…

Quark Contraction Tool - QCT

2019

We present a Mathematica package for the calculation of Wick contractions in quantum field theories — QCT. The package aims at automatically generating code for the calculation of physical matrix elements, suitable for numerical evaluation in a C++ program. To that end commonly used algebraic manipulations for the calculation of matrix elements in lattice QCD are implemented.
