Using the witness method to detect rigid subsystems of geometric constraints in CAD

International audience; This paper deals with the resolution of geometric constraint systems encountered in CAD-CAM. The main results are that the witness method can be used to detect that a constraint system is over-constrained and that the computation of the maximal rigid subsystems of a system leads to a powerful decomposition method. In a first step, we recall the theoretical framework of the witness method in geometric constraint solving and extend this method to generate a witness. Conformal equivalence of visual metrics in pseudoconvex domains

We refine estimates introduced by Balogh and Bonk, to show that the boundary extensions of isometries between smooth strongly pseudoconvex domains in $\C^n$ are conformal with respect to the sub-Riemannian metric induced by the Levi form. As a corollary we obtain an alternative proof of a result of Fefferman on smooth extensions of biholomorphic mappings between pseudoconvex domains. The proofs are inspired by Mostow's proof of his rigidity theorem and are based on the asymptotic hyperbolic character of the Kobayashi or Bergman metrics and on the Bonk-Schramm hyperbolic fillings.

Some observations on the regularizing field for gradient damage models

Gradient enhanced material models can potentially preserve well-posedness of incremental boundary value problems also after the onset of strain softening. Gradient dependent constitutive relations are rooted in the assumption that some scalar or tensor field, which appears in the yield function, has to be enriched by adding a term involving its second-order gradient field. For gradient-dependent plasticity this term is universally accepted to be the equivalent plastic strain. For gradient-dependent damage models different choices have been presented in the literature. Towards farm-level health management of offshore wind farms for maintenance improvements

This paper studies a conceptual architecture for health management of offshore wind farms. To this aim, various necessary enablers of a health management sys- tem are presented to improve reliability and availability while optimizing maintenance costs. The main focus lies on improving existing condition monitoring systems based on concepts of condition-based maintenance and relia- bility centered maintenance. A brief review of the rel- evant state-of-the-art is presented and gaps to be filled towards realization of such health management system are discussed.

We review recent computer simulation studies of undulating lipid bilayers. Theoretical interpretations of such fluctuating membranes are most commonly based on generalized Helfrich-type elastic models, with additional contributions of local "protrusions" and/or density fluctuations. Such models provide an excellent basis for describing the fluctuations of tensionless bilayers in the fluid phase at a quantitative level. However, this description is found to fail for membranes in the gel phase and for membranes subject to high tensions. We study the response of single nanosized spherical colloids in electrolyte solution to an alternating electric field (AC field) by computer simulations. We use a coarse-grained mesoscopic simulation approach that accounts in full for hydrodynamic and electrostatic interactions as well as for thermal fluctuations. The solvent is modeled as a fluid of single Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD) beads, and the colloidal particle is modeled as a rigid body made of DPD beads. Orientational dynamics of fluctuating dipolar particles assembled in a mesoscopic colloidal ribbon

We combine experiments and theory to investigate the dynamics and orientational fluctuations of ferromagnetic microellipsoids that form a ribbonlike structure due to attractive dipolar forces. When assembled in the ribbon, the ellipsoids display orientational thermal fluctuations with an amplitude that can be controlled via application of an in-plane magnetic field. We use video microscopy to investigate the orientational dynamics in real time and space. Polyelectrolyte Electrophoresis in Nanochannels: A Dissipative Particle Dynamics Simulation

We present mesoscopic DPD-simulations of polyelectrolyte electrophoresis in confined nanogeometries, for varying salt concentration and surface slip conditions. Special attention is given to the influence of electroosmotic flow (EOF) on the migration of the polyelectrolyte. The effective polyelectrolyte mobility is found to depend strongly on the boundary properties, i.e., the slip length and the width of the electric double layer. Analytic expressions for the electroosmotic mobility and the total mobility are derived which are in good agreement with the numerical results.
