Prediction and interpolation of time series by state space models

In order to make realistic inferences based on time series forecasts, in addition to point predictions, prediction intervals or other measures of uncertainty should be presented. A blow-up result for a nonlinear wave equation on manifolds: the critical case

We consider a inhomogeneous semilinear wave equation on a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold (Formula presented.) of dimension (Formula presented.), without boundary. The reaction exhibits the combined effects of a critical term and of a forcing term. Using a rescaled test function argument together with appropriate estimates, we show that the equation admits no global solution. Moreover, in the special case when (Formula presented.), our result improves the existing literature. Namely, our main result is valid without assuming that the initial values are compactly supported.

The paper analyses two marches of resistance in Palermo with references to the public space as in Goheen’s (1998) theses. In the first one, the public space gradually loses relevance and presents the citizens as consumers; in the second one, it remains an arena of the fights of those groups that claim to visibility and recognition. The itinerant ritual of Wu Ming 2 and the last Gay Pride in Palermo are the two kinds of march capable of creating collective spaces. SPI/INTEGRAL in-flight performance

The SPI instrument has been launched on-board the INTEGRAL observatory on October 17, 2002. SPI is a spectrometer devoted to the sky observation in the 20 keV-8 MeV energy range using 19 germanium detectors. The performance of the cryogenic system is nominal and allows to cool the 19 kg of germanium down to 85 K with a comfortable margin. The energy resolution of the whole camera is 2.5 keV at 1.1 MeV. This resolution degrades with time due to particle irradiation in space. We show that the annealing process allows the recovery of the initial performance. The anticoincidence shield works as expected, with a low threshold at 75 keV, reducing the GeD background by a factor of 20. The digital …

Fundamental bounds on qubit reset

Qubit reset is a basic prerequisite for operating quantum devices, requiring the export of entropy. The fastest and most accurate way to reset a qubit is obtained by coupling the qubit to an ancilla on demand. Here, we derive fundamental bounds on qubit reset in terms of maximum fidelity and minimum time, assuming control over the qubit and no control over the ancilla. Using the Cartan decomposition of the Lie algebra of qubit plus two-level ancilla, we identify the types of interaction and controls for which the qubit can be purified. Urban Space and Gender Performativity in Knut Hamsun’s Hunger and Cora Sandel’s Alberta and Freedom

In this article, I discuss the combination of city life and gender performativity in two Norwegian classics, Knut Hamsun’s Hunger (2016) [Sult, 1890] and Cora Sandel’s Alberta and Freedom (1984) [Alberte og friheten, 1931]. These are modernist novels depicting lonely human subjects in an urban space, the first one featuring a man in Kristiania (now Oslo) in the 1880s, the second one a woman and her female acquaintances in Paris in the 1920s. Parental and Infant Gender Factors in Parent-Infant Interaction: State-Space Dynamic Analysis.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of parental gender on their interaction with their infants, considering, as well, the role of the infant’s gender. The State Space Grid (SSG) method, a graphical tool based on the non-linear dynamic system (NDS) approach was used to analyze the interaction, in Free-Play setting, of 52 infants, aged 6 to 10 months, divided into two groups: half of the infants interacted with their fathers and half with their mothers. There were 50% boys in each group. MANOVA results showed no differential parenting of boys and girls. The arachnoid trabecular layer, located internally to the arachnoid layer, is composed of fibers that form the spider web–like trabecular structure found in the subarachnoid space and in the adventitial layer of blood vessels. The arachnoid trabeculae give shape to tubular structures (arachnoid sheaths) for each nerve root and for the spinal cord. Some of these arachnoid trabeculae extend to the pia mater. The trabecular arachnoid is an extremely fragile structure, which can easily be damaged.
