Transoral surgical approach to solitary fibrous tumors in buccal space with infratemporal tumor extension : a case report

2020

A solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a rare spindle-cell neoplasm of mesenchymal origin usually located in the pleura. It has been recently described as occurring in various head and neck sites, including the oral cavity. The purpose of this article is to report a case of SFT originating in the buccal space and extending into the infratemporal space treated by means of transoral approach surgery. A 25-year-old female patient reported to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Universitas Airlangga Hospital, chiefly complaining of a painless lump in the left cheek which had been present for nine months. The diagnosis was arrived at on the basis of a combination of clinical investigat…

Changes in the adrenergic mechanisms of cerebral arteries after subarachnoid hemorrhage in goats.

1994

We have examined the effects of experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), induced by delivering autologous blood into the subarachnoid space, on the adrenergic mechanisms of the goat cerebrovascular bed. To achieve this, the response to noradrenaline was recorded both in vivo, by measuring cerebral blood flow in unanesthetized animals, and in vitro, by recording isometric tension in isolated cerebral arteries. In addition, we checked the function of adrenergic innervation by measuring the tritium efflux evoked by electrical stimulation in cerebral arteries preloaded with [3H]-noradrenaline, and we examined this innervation by using both fluorescent and electron transmission microscopy. Al…

Interstitial washout and hydrolysis of acetylcholine in the perfused heart

1982

The efflux of acetylcholine, of radioactively labelled acetylcholine and choline, into the venous effluent of the perfused chicken heart was studied to determine the kinetics of both interstitial washout and hydrolysis of acetylcholine. Stimulation of both cervical vagus nerves (e.g., for 5 s at 40 Hz) caused a release of acetylcholine, which appeared partially unhydrolyzed in the venous effluent, and reduced force of contraction and heart rate. For comparison, labelled acetylcholine or choline was infused for 5 s into the heart and again the venous efflux of either substance was determined. It was found that the kinetics of efflux of acetylcholine or choline from the interstitial space wer…

Regulation of PTHrP and PTH/PTHrP receptor by extracellular Ca2+ concentration and hormones in the breast cancer cell line 8701-BC.

2000

AbstractIt was previously reported that 8701-BC breast tumour cells express the gene for parathyroid hormonerelated peptide (PTHrP) and PTH/PTHrP receptor (PTHrPR) and release immunoreactive PTHrP (iPTHrP) into the extracellular medium. Since the regulation of PTHrP and PTHrPR by breast cancer cells has been poorly investigated so far, we have chosen the 8701- BC cell line as a model system to investigate whether alterations in the extracellular Ca[2+] concentration ([Ca[2+]]) and treatment with some wellknown differentiation agents for breast cells, such as dimethyl sulfoxide, hydrocortisone, progesterone, prolactin, alltrans retinoic acid and transforming growth factorβ1 might (i) modulat…

Role of ozone Disc Nucleolysis in Herniated intervertebral Disc : The Indian experience [abstract]

2018

Aim: To study the role of ozone disc Nucleolysis in herniated intervertebral disc
Materials: We retrospectively analysed consecutives patients undergoing ozone disc nucleolysis. There were Total of 5265 patients with 2740 males and 2525 females .their Age was ranging from 17yrs to 84 years. Patients weight was ranging from 36 to 138 kilograms. All the patients had failed conservative management for at least 3weeks.
Methods: All the patients were clinically evaluated as per inclusion and exclusion criterions. Pre-treatment Visual Analogue scale (VAS)and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).All the patients undergone Pre-treatments work up of MRI of the spine.256 patients were underg…

Strength and muscle mass loss with aging process. Age and strength loss.

2014

Background aging process is associated with changes in muscle mass and strength with decline of muscle strength after the 30(th) life year. The aim of this study was to investigate these changes in muscle mass and strength. Patients & methods for this analysis 26 participants were subdivided in two groups. Group 1 comprises participants aged 40 years (n=12). We assessed anthropometrics, range of motions, leg circumferences and isometric strength values of the knee joints. Results besides comparable anthropometrics, circumferences and strength were higher in group 1 than in group 2. Circumference of upper leg (20 cm above knee articular space) showed for right leg a trend to a significant (m…

Die endoskopische retroperitoneale Adrenalektomie

2008

Aim of study To determine prospectively in consecutive patients the value of endoscopic retroperitoneal adrenalectomy. Patients and methods Between March 1994 and March 1995, endoscopic adrenalectomy via a retroperitoneal approach was performed in eleven patients (three men, eight women; median age 61 [48-73] years), unilateral in nine, bilateral in two. The procedure was indicated if the adrenal tumour was thought to be benign and no larger than 5 cm in diameter (two adrenal and two central Cushing's syndromes; three incidentally detected adrenal adenomas, two phaeochromocytomas, two Conn adenomas). Results Twelve of the 13 procedures were successfully performed. In one case the primary in…

Manejo de las otolicuorreas

2013

Introduction: Cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea results from an abnormal communication between the subarachnoid space and tympanomastoid compartment; most of them are of traumatic aetiology. They have clinical interest due to the potential risk of meningitis, directly related to the aetiology. Our aim was to show our experience in the management of this process. Methods: A total of 17 patients diagnosed and treated for cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea from 2003 to 2011.

Results of endoscopic retroperitoneal adrenalectomy

1996

Background: From March 1994 to August 1995 we performed extraperitoneal endoscopic adrenalectomy in 18 patients with adrenal gland tumors. Methods: Two of these patients underwent bilateral adrenalectomy. For the extraperitoneal approach a pneumoret-roperitoneum was established and three 10-mm trocars were inserted in the area of the conventional flank incision. Adrenalectomy was performed via these ports. Endoscopic retroperitoneal adrenalectomy was successful in 15 patients; three patients required a conventional operation via an extraperitoneal lumbar approach because of inadequate exposure of the adrenal gland. In patients with endoscopic retroperitoneal adrenalectomy median operative t…

<title>Flexible neuroendoscopy with laser and microsystem technique</title>

1994

The use of flexible neuroendoscopic techniques in neurosurgical procedures is routinely performed in the spinal canal and in the intracranial subdural space. Treated entities are syringomyelia, tumors with concomitant syrinxes in spinal cord, cystic legions in the subdural and subarachnoid space in the spinal canal as myelomeningoceles.© (1994) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
