Age and productivity as determinants of firm survival over the industry life cycle

AbstractThis paper contributes to fill the gap between the literature on the determinants of firm survival and the empirical works on the industry life cycle (ILC). Using a representative sample of Spanish firms with 10 or more employees over the period 1993–2009, the role played by firm age and productivity in firm survival is empirically analysed across three stages of the life cycle of forty-seven 3-digit manufacturing sectors. In the ‘early’ stage of the ILC, firm age is negatively correlated with hazard rates while firm productivity is not. José Hernández (Tánger, 1944-Málaga, 2013) es uno de los grandes maestros del arte fantástico con una extensa obra pictórica y gráfica reconocida en todo el mundo. En un momento en el que el arte fantástico empieza a valorarse positivamente en museos y el ámbito académico, Hernández es un referente indispensable tanto en el ámbito español como en el panorama internacional. This research aims to analyze recruitment by quintas, Spanish word for recruitment levies by lot, in the city of Valencia and the townships included in its jurisdictional area. The analyzed period began in 1717 with the first levie decreted by king Philip V once the War of Spanish Succession was over. Applied this levie in the kingdom of Valencia, this was the first application of levies by lot.
