Posterior stability in posterior-stabilized vs medially congruent total knee replacement: A radiological comparison of two polyethylene designs in a …
2020
Objective:The purpose of this radiological study was to assess the posterior laxity of a single model of a total knee arthroplasty design (TKA) having a medially constrained (MC) or a Posterior-Stabilized (PS) polyethylene insert using a well-documented stress x-ray. To the authors knowledge, this is the first report evaluating MC TKA outcomes according to the “kneeling view.”Materials and Methods:Sixty patients with non-traumatic primary knee osteoarthritis undergoing TKA were first matched by age, sex, BMI and diagnosis and then divided in two groups: group A (37 knees) received a MC TKA and group B (23 knees) a PS implant made by the same manufacturer. In all cases the posterior cruciate…
Range of Motion and Injury Occurrence in Elite Spanish Soccer Academies. Not Only a Hamstring Shortening-Related Problem.
2020
Sanz, A, Pablos, C, Ballester, R, Sanchez-Alarcos, JV, and Huertas, F. Range of motion and injury occurrence in elite Spanish soccer academies. Not only a hamstring shortening-related problem. J Strength Cond Res 34(7): 1924-1932, 2020-Age-related development of range of motion (ROM) during an active hip flexion (active straight leg raise) and its relationship with hamstring injury occurrence were examined in 1657 young male soccer players (9-18 years of age). Age-related differences in ROM showed a significant decrease from U9 to U11 (p = 0.001), from U11 to U13 (p0.005), and from U9 to U13 (p0.001), whereas ROM increased from U13 to U15 and from U13 to U18 (both p's0.001). Interestingly, …
Optimal positioning of the humeral component in the reverse shoulder prosthesis.
2014
Total reverse shoulder arthroplasty is becoming more and more the standard therapeutic practice for glenohumeral arthropathy with massive lesions of the rotator cuff. The biomechanical principle of this prosthesis is represented by the reversion of the normal anatomy of the shoulder joint. This non-anatomical prosthesis leads to a medialization of the rotation centre of the glenohumeral joint and also to a distalization of the humeral head. All that causes a deltoid tension increasing so allowing a larger abduction of the arm. Main complications of the reverse shoulder prosthesis are due to the joint instability, the scapular notching and the wear of the polyethylene insert. The main goal o…
Two different posterior-stabilized mobile-bearing TKA designs: navigator evaluation of intraoperative kinematic differences
2020
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare two types of posterior-stabilized (PS) mobile-bearing (MB) total knee arthroplasties (TKAs). The hypothesis was that no major differences were going to be found among the two TKA designs. Methods: Two cohorts of patients who were divided according to implant design (Cohort A, new design gradually reducing radius PS MB TKA; Cohort B, traditional dual-radius PS MB TKA) were analyzed by means of intraoperative navigation. All operations were guided by a non-image-based navigation system that recorded relative femoral and tibial positions in native and implanted knees during the following kinematic tests: passive range of motion (PROM), varus–va…
Anterior dislocation in a total knee arthroplasty: A case report and literature review.
2015
Dislocations of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are an uncommon injury and only few cases of anterior dislocations have been reported. We report a rare case of anterior dislocation of a 10-year-old posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty in a 74-year-old woman. The patient was successfully treated by close reduction of the dislocation followed by immobilization in full extension with a long leg cast. Because of a high risk of neurovascular complications, a high index of suspicion for vascular injury must be maintained. For this reason, a proper diagnosis is required and immediate reduction is recommended.
Temporal Stability of Music Preferences as an Indicator of Their Underlying Conditionings
2013
To emphasize the substantial impact of both cognitive and emotional processes on the development of music preferences, such definitions are formed which define preferences as a set of emotional-rational attitudes, which in turn affect the perception of a piece of music. It can be assumed that music preferences are dependent on the current situational and emotional aspects. Accepting this assumption, the absolute stability of the preferences of particular musical genres will be relatively low. As an alternative to the above reasoning, it can be assumed that the high temporal stability of the musical genres preferences may indicate deeper than, for instance, related to the current mood determ…

Modelling the Electromechanical Impedance Method for the Prediction of the Biomechanical Behavior of Dental Implant Stability
2015
Abstract We propose the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique to assess the stability of dental implants. The technique consists of bonding a piezoelectric transducer to the element to be monitored. Conventionally, electromechanical admittance is used to diagnose structural damage. In this study, we created a 3D finite element model to mimic a transducer bonded to the abutment of a dental implant placed in a host bone site. We simulated the healing after surgery by changing the Young's modulus of the bone-implant interface. The results show that as the Young's modulus of the interface increases, the electromechanical characteristic of the transducer changes.
Diet composition and seasonal feeding patterns of a freshwater ringed seal (Pusa hispida saimensis)
2015
The Saimaa ringed seal (Pusa hispida saimensis) is one of the few freshwater seal populations worldwide. The major conservation issue of this critically endangered population is bycatch mortality. We used digestive tract content and stable isotopes (d13C and d15N) to estimate the diet and seasonal feeding patterns for gaining better understanding of the seals feeding habits and potential conservation implications. The diet was similar across age groups. Altogether 15 fish species were identified and the most important were smelt (Osmerus eperlanus), ruff (Gymnocephalus cernuus), perch (Perca fluviatilis), vendace (Coregonus albula) and cyprinids. The high d15N values suggested that the seal…
Stability and variability in parents' causal attributions for their child's academic success and failure
2016
This research examined the mean-level, interindividual and intraindividual stabilities in parents’ causal attributions for their child’s performance outcomes. Parental causal attributions to ability, effort, teaching and task difficulty were studied separately for mothers and fathers. Three Finnish data sets were used. The first sample was derived from the Jyväskylä Entrance into Primary School study, in which 212 children and their parents were followed from the beginning of the first grade to the end of the ninth grade. The second sample included over 1,700 children and their parents from the First Steps study, in which the participants were followed from the beginning of the first grade …
