Lymph node ratio in inguinal lymphadenectomy for squamous cell vulvar cancer: Results from the AGO-CaRE-1 study.
2019
Lymph node ratio (LNR) can predict treatment outcome and prognosis in patients with solid tumors. Aim of the present analysis was to confirm the concept of using LNR for assessing outcome in patients with vulvar cancer after surgery with inguinal lymphadenectomy in a large multicenter project. The AGO-CaRE-1 study multicenter database was used for analysis. LNR was defined as ratio of number of positive lymph nodes (LN) to the number of resected. Previously established LNR risk groups were used to stratify patients. LNR was investigated with respect to clinical parameters. Univariate and multivariable survival analyses were performed to assess the value of LNR in order to predict overall (OS…
Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Clinical and Pathological Features and Associated Risk Factors in an Observational Study of 118 Patients
2015
Background and objective: In the latest edition of its cancer staging manual, the American JointCommittee on Cancer (AJCC) revised the criteria for staging squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by introducing high-risk tumor features to define tumor stage (T) and help to identify tumors with a higher risk of metastasis. The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics associated with SCC meeting the high-risk criteria defined by the AJCC for T2 lesions. Patients and method: We performed a case-case observational study in which patients with SCC were included over a period of 18 months. We collected clinical, anthropometric, and tumor data, and analyzed these using PASW Statistics (SPSS)…
“Weekly docetaxel and gemcitabine as first line treatment for metastatic breast cancer: results of a multicenter phase II study”
2004
<i>Objectives:</i> We conducted a multicenter phase II study to evaluate the clinical efficacy, toxicity, and dose intensity of a new weekly schedule of docetaxel and gemcitabine as first-line treatment of metastatic breast cancer patients. <i>Methods:</i> We enrolled 58 patients, 52% of whom had received a previous anthracycline-containing chemotherapy. The treatment schedule was: docetaxel 35 mg/m2 and gemcitabine 800 mg/m2 i.v. on days 1, 8, 15 every 28 days. <i>Results:</i> All patients were assessable for toxicity and 56 for efficacy. Overall response rate was 64.3% with 16.1% of complete responses and 48…
Digital Subtraction Angiography in Staging Renal Cell Carcinoma: Comparison with Computerized Tomography and Hlstopathology
1984
Digital subtraction angiography was compared to computerized tomography and histopathological findings for staging renal cell carcinoma in 24 patients. Injection of contrast material through a 16 gauge angiocatheter into the femoral vein provided digital subtraction cavography, digital subtraction arteriography and excretory urography during 1 investigation. Computerized tomography established the diagnosis in all patients, while digital subtraction angiography showed all angiographic signs of renal cell carcinoma in 14 (58 per cent). T staging was correct on computerized tomography in 18 patients and on digital subtraction angiography in 16. Absence or presence of venous involvement was in…
Multivariate independent prognostic factors in endometrial carcinoma: A clinicopathologic study in 181 patients: 10 years experience at the Departmen…
2003
The aim of this study was to evaluate the biologic outcome of endometrial carcinomas as compared to clinical and pathologic parameters and to identify multivariate independent prognostic factors. Charts were abstracted from patients with endometrial carcinoma from 1985 to 1995. Data on clinicopathologic variables, adjuvant treatment, site of recurrence, and survival were collected. chi2 test was used to test association between variables. Kaplan-Maier method was used for survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards model for multiple regression analysis. Univariate analysis revealed that FIGO stage, tumor grade, depth of myometrial invasion, biochemical analysis of progesterone receptor s…
Microenvironmental regulation of the IL-23R/IL-23 axis overrides chronic lymphocytic leukemia indolence
2018
Although the progression of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) requires the cooperation of the microenvironment, the exact cellular and molecular mechanisms involved are still unclear. We investigated the interleukin (IL)-23 receptor (IL-23R)/IL-23 axis and found that circulating cells from early-stage CLL patients with shorter time-to-treatment, but not of those with a more benign course, expressed a defective form of the IL-23R complex lacking the IL-12Rβ1 chain. However, cells from both patient groups expressed the complete IL-23R complex in tissue infiltrates and could be induced to express the IL-12Rβ1 chain when cocultured with activated T cells or CD40L+ cells. CLL cells activated in…
Increased C-reactive protein implies a poorer stage-specific prognosis in colon cancer.
2013
To characterize the stage-specific prognostic relevance of preoperative systemic inflammatory response, defined by C-reactive protein (CRP), in colon cancer (CC) patients.Data from CC patients operated on from 1998 to 2007 at three hospitals from three different Nordic countries were collected retrospectively from national registries, local databases and/or patient records. Patients with emergency surgery, infection or auto-immune disease were excluded. Associations between clinical or histopathological variables and CRP were assessed. Patients were followed from the date of surgery to death or end of follow-up. Disease-specific survival (DSS) was the main endpoint. In total, 525 patients wi…
