Effects of Lévy noise on the dynamics of sine-Gordon solitons in long Josephson junctions

We numerically investigate the generation of solitons in current-biased long Josephson junctions in relation to the superconducting lifetime and the voltage drop across the device. The dynamics of the junction is modelled with a sine-Gordon equation driven by an oscillating field and subject to an external non-Gaussian noise. A wide range of $\alpha$-stable L\'evy distributions is considered as noise source, with varying stability index $\alpha$ and asymmetry parameter $\beta$. Goodness-of-fit tests in many dimensions

A method is presented to construct goodness-of-fit statistics in many dimensions for which the distribution of all possible test results in the limit of an infinite number of data becomes Gaussian if also the number of dimensions becomes infinite. Furthermore, an explicit example is presented, for which this distribution as good as only depends on the expectation value and the variance of the statistic for any dimension larger than one.
Monte Carlo simulation of virtual Compton scattering below pion threshold

This paper describes the Monte Carlo simulation developed specifically for the VCS experiments below pion threshold that have been performed at MAMI and JLab. This simulation generates events according to the (Bethe-Heitler + Born) cross section behaviour and takes into account all relevant resolution-deteriorating effects. It determines the `effective' solid angle for the various experimental settings which are used for the precise determination of photon electroproduction absolute cross section.
Hierarchy and dynamics of trace distance correlations

We define and analyze measures of correlations for bipartite states based on trace distance. For Bell diagonal states of two qubits, in addition to the known expression for quantum correlations using this metric, we provide analytic expressions for the classical and total correlations. The ensuing hierarchy of correlations based on trace distance is compared to the ones based on relative entropy and Hilbert-Schmidt norm. On the Multifractal Character of the Lorenz Attractor

A detailed analysis of the Lorenz attractor in connection with generalized dimensions is presented in this work. Different methods have been employed to estimate these dimensions. Two of them are of standard type. A new method, based on the minimal spanning tree of the point distribution, is extensively tested in this work. It turns out that the Lorenz attractor is very appropriate for being analyzed through this technique, which produces a very clean estimate of the extrema scaling indices α min and α max . We give an overview over recent studies on the model of Active Brownian Motion (ABM) coupled to reservoirs providing free energy which may be converted into kinetic energy of motion. First, we present an introduction to a general concept of active Brownian particles which are capable to take up energy from the source and transform part of it in order to perform various activities. In the second part of our presentation we consider applications of ABM to ratchet systems with different forms of differentiable potentials. Quantum resonant activation

Quantum resonant activation is investigated for the archetype setup of an externally driven two-state (spin-boson) system subjected to strong dissipation by means of both analytical and extensive numerical calculations. The phenomenon of resonant activation emerges in the presence of either randomly fluctuating or deterministic periodically varying driving fields. Addressing the incoherent regime, a characteristic minimum emerges in the mean first passage time to reach an absorbing neighboring state whenever the intrinsic time scale of the modulation matches the characteristic time scale of the system dynamics. Reinterpretation of Classic Proton Charge Form Factor Measurements

In 1963, a proton radius of $0.805(11)~\mathrm{fm}$ was extracted from electron scattering data and this classic value has been used in the standard dipole parameterization of the form factor. In trying to reproduce this classic result, we discovered that there was a sign error in the original analysis and that the authors should have found a value of $0.851(19)~\mathrm{fm}$. We additionally made use of modern computing power to find a robust function for extracting the radius using this 1963 data's spacing and uncertainty. This optimal function, the Pad\'{e} $(0,1)$ approximant, also gives a result which is consistent with the modern high precision proton radius extractions.
