We review the long-term results of buccal mucosa onlay grafting for urethral reconstruction in hypospadias surgery in patients with followup of at least 5 years.We retrospectively evaluated 132 patients who underwent buccal mucosa onlay graft for hypospadias repair, including 34 who underwent "salvage" grafting, during a 10-year period at our institution. In 49 cases with available followup longer than 5 years (average 6.2) complications were analyzed in detail.The overall complication rate was 24% (12 of 49 patients), with all but 3 complications occurring during the first postoperative year (3 fistulas, 1 stricture, 1 meatal stenosis, 2 graft contractures, 2 scars at oral harvesting site)…

Recent data from the literature concerning symptomatic carotid stenosis show that the long-term benefits of surgery are greater when the surgery is performed soon after the neurologic event, ideally within 2 weeks. Since 2009, following recommendations, we decided to perform surgery as quick as possible. Summary Background Carotid stenting is a potential alternative to carotid endarterectomy but whether this technique is as safe as surgery and whether the long-term protection against stroke is similar to that of surgery are unclear. Objective: Evaluate the use of lingual mucosal graft (LMG) in anterior urethral strictures.Methods: From January 2001 to December 2006, 29 men (mean age, 48.5 yr) with anterior urethral strictures underwent graft urethroplasty with LMG. The mean length of stricture was 3.6 cm. Patients with bulbar, penile, or bulbopenile strictures received one-stage dorsal free graft urethroplasties. In patients with failed hypospadias repair we performed a two-stage urethroplasty. Criteria for successful reconstruction were spontaneous voiding with no postvoid residual urine and no postoperative instrumentation of any kind. Summary Background/Objective The aim of our study was to evaluate right heart contractile force in patients with diastolic dysfunction (DD) with preserved left heart ejection fraction undergoing cardiac surgery. We examined the contractile properties of skinned human fibers obtained from the right auricle in two groups (DD and controls). A newly developed portable multi-channel photoplethysmography (PPG) device has been used for comparative studies of 20 healthy control subjects and 45 patients with diagnosed arterial stenosis in a leg. The peripheral blood pulsations were detected simultaneously at four body sites-the same fingers and toes of both arms and legs. The PPG pulses recorded at the periphery of the stenotic leg, if compared with those of the healthy leg, were much weaker, with delayed arrival as a consequence of increased pulse wave transit time (PWTT) due to higher vascular resistance. Introduction: Revacept is a novel vascular lesion-directed inhibitor of platelet adhesion and thrombus formation, exhibiting no effects on the homeostatic functions of circulating platelets.
