2019
Since the sixteenth century, the threat of Ottoman armies and Barbary corsairs forced Spain to gradually equip and upgrade a fleet of galleys - organized in teams - which in the "Italian" geopolitical space was headed by the domains that had a maritime projection (Kingdoms of Naples, Sicily, Sardinia) and the "connected" port of Genoa. Furthermore, new territories (the State of the Presidi, the feudal enclave of Finale) were acquired to facilitate navigation within the western Mediterranean borders and the use of Ligurian ports was negotiated with the Republic of Genoa. The maritime war in its various forms was therefore at the base of an elaborate logistic and strategic organization, which…
The Ransom project. A visual, multidisciplinary research on kidnapping and mediation
I am working on a multidisciplinary and transmedia project focused on kidnapping and mediation through the centuries. Starting from the current debate on Public History, I will produce both a written, canonical dissertation and also an audiovisual project, likely a documentary or a series of short films. Kidnapping is a human practice that somehow predates human history, since it is present in several mythological narratives from all over the world. With his recurring characters, the process of kidnapping have a built-in narrativity that can be examined with the tools of comparative literature, folklore studies and semiotics. My aim is to highlight the continuities and changes in this pract…
Carriere in movimento.

2010
The Jesuit from Granada Ignacio de las Casas (1550-1608) wrote a composite manuscript - which included official documents, memorials, instructions and decisions - which is today kept in London British Library. The manuscript clearly shows his point of view about the painful and intricate expulsion of the moriscos from Spain between XVI and XVII century. He was not in agreement with the banishment and proscription(destierro)policy and at the time this opinion was not so widespread; he thought instead that it was necessary to leave behind the forced conversions (which compelled to simulation), but conversely to achieve a policy of integration, to abolish tax discrimination, to get moriscos ou…
2016
The article focuses on Giacinto Dragonetti’s Origins of the Fiefs in the Neapolitan and Sicilian Kingdom. The book was published in 1788 as expression of the governmental policy concerning the good interpretation of the Volentes chapter and the right exerted by the fiscal system on the fiefs without heirs. Through a detailed analysis of the text and the context into which it was written, the article aims to deepen the knowledge of the cultural changes caused by the intertwining among historiography, politics and law into the framework of the discussions relating the feudal matter in the second half of the Eighteenth century. Paying particular attention to the epistemological and methodologi…
