Rehabilitació d’addiccions comportamentals: trets d’una experiència

2018

ADVP technology-supported model the development of metacognitive strategies during teacher training academic studies

2012

The aim of the present study is to determine the relationship between metacognition and decision making and whether metacognitive strategy instruction is effective in improving decision-making performance. Previous research results in the field demonstrated a relationship between metacognitive awareness and decision-making performance. Regulation of cognition was shown to have a greater impact on decision making than did knowledge of cognition. Metacognitive strategy instruction was found to be beneficial to those in the below-average group, but not to those in the average or above-average groups. This study, using the elaborated learning and knowledge building model (ADVP model), derived f…

An efficient adaptive strategy for searching in peer-to-peer networks

2005

One of the main technical challenges in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks is how to efficiently locate desired resources. Although structured systems, based on distributed hash tables, can achieve fair effectiveness, they are not suitable for widely deployed Internet applications. In fact, this kind of systems shows many severe limitations, such as ignoring the autonomous nature of peers, and supporting only weakly semantic functions. Unstructured P2P networks are more attractive for real applications, since they can avoid both the limitations of centralized systems, and the drawbacks of structured approaches. However, their search algorithms are usually based on inefficient flooding schemes, tha…

1653 – The developemnt of adaptive and maladaptive patterns of internet use among european adolescents at risk for internet addictive behaviors: a gr…

2013

Introduction Full findings from the European Commission funded EU-NET-ADB study (Safer Internet Programme) will be presented. Objectives Empirical findings that elucidate the development of an internet addictive behaviour are still incomplete. This is also related to risk as well as protective factors of internet use. Here a process oriented approach to identify underlying conditions of an internet addictive behaviour was chosen. Aims The aim of the study is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of underlying processes which lead to situation were internet addictive behaviour can evolve. Methods In total 124 in-depth interviews were conducted with adolescents with an age of 14-17 year.…

Birds facing climate change: a qualitative model for the adaptive potential of migratory behaviour

2015

Recent climate change is altering the migratory behaviour of many bird species. An advancement in the timing of spring events and a shift in the geographical distribution have been detected for birds around the world. In particular, intra-Palearctic migratory birds have advanced arrivals in spring and shortened migratory distances by shifting northward their wintering grounds. These changes in migratory patterns are considered adaptive responses facilitating the adjustment of the life cycle to the phenological changes found in their breeding areas. However, in some cases, populations exposed to the same selective pressures do not show any appreciable adaptive change in their behaviour. Basi…

Invasive meningococcal disease in Italy: from analysis of national data to an evidence-based vaccination strategy

2020

Introduction. Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is one of the most severe vaccine-preventable diseases not yet under control. In Italy, although different anti-meningococcal vaccines are available, their offer among regions is heterogeneous. The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiology of IMD in Italy based on analysis of national surveillance data for 2011–2017 to optimize the vaccination strategy. Methods: IMD surveillance data from the Italian National Health Institute were analysed. Microsoft Excel was used to present trend analysis, stratifying by age and serogroups. Results: In Italy, during the period 2011–2017, the incidence of IMD increased from 0.25 cases/100,000 inhab…

[Alert for meningitis in Palermo? Successful strategies to counteract the impact of mass media]

2018

Following two invasive meningococcal disease cases among twenties, general population overloaded vaccination Units of the Palermo's District during summer 2016. Sicilian Health Authorities adopted several public health strategies including: a) active meningococcal vaccination free of charge for people from 18 up to 30 years of age, b) information in crowded places and rapid communication by media. An increase in anti-meningococcal vaccination doses administered (+868%) as well as in anti-dTp and HPV vaccination (+41% and +8%, respectively) due to a further catch-up was observed.

Cross-Country Measurement Invariance and Effects of Sociodemographic Factors on Body Weight and Shape Concern-Related Constructs in Eight Countries.

2020

The aim of this study was to examine the cross-country invariance of five well-established measures of body weight and shape concern-related attitudes and behaviors (i.e., drive for leanness, drive for muscularity, strategies to increase muscle, strategies to lose weight, and weight and shape concerns). A secondary objective was to examine the effects of several sociodemographic factors (age, BMI, socioeconomic status, and gender) on item and latent factor scores of these constructs. A total of 6272 emerging adults (4218 women; Mage = 21.46, SD = 3.11) from Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the U.S. completed a self-report online survey as part of a larger study. Global, regional, and national burden of colorectal cancer and its risk factors, 1990–2019: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease St…

2022

Correction to Lancet Gastroenterol Hepatol 2022; 7: 627-47. Lancet Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2022 Aug;7(8):704. doi: 10.1016/S2468-1253(22)00210-2. PMID: 35809605. Background: Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Given the recent increasing trends in colorectal cancer incidence globally, up-to-date information on the colorectal cancer burden could guide screening, early detection, and treatment strategies, and help effectively allocate resources. We examined the temporal patterns of the global, regional, and national burden of colorectal cancer and its risk factors in 204 countries and territories across the past three decades. Methods: Estimates of incidenc…
