Webcam based display calibration

2012

International audience; We present an automatic method for measuring the tone response curve of display devices based on visual methods, where the eye is replaced by an end-user, uncalibrated camera, such as a webcam. Our approach compares a series of halftoned patches of known covering ratio with a continuous series of tone patches for each ratio. Both patches are shot by a camera that is used as a virtual eye to evaluate the luminance difference. By an iterative process, the continuous tone value is adjusted while compared with the perceived level of the halftoned patch. When the camera does not see any difference between the patches or a minimal difference, the luminance level of the con…

Microgastrinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in the Forest State of Artikutza (Navarra: Spain): Diversity and Community Structure

2013

Microgastrinae is one of the largest subfamilies of the Braconidae with about 2,000 described species worldwide. These wasps are of enormous ecological interest due to their role in controlling the caterpillar populations. This study analyses diversity and community structure within the Microgastrinae in the Artikutza Forest, located in the Peñas de Aia Natural Park, western Pyrenees, Spain. The specimens were collected in two different habitats: mixed forest and beech forest. A total of 524 specimens, belonging to nine separate genera and 27 species were captured. Alpha, beta and gamma diversity were analyzed. Additionally, the relationship between Microgastrinae phenology and climatic con…

The role of the agreement as a tool for management of property relations in cases of cross border marriages and civil unions/partnerships registered …

2021

The essay examines the role of the agreement as a tool for managing property relationships in crossborder marriages and registered partnerships, in light of EU Regulations 1103 and 1104 of 2016, on the property regimes of international married or registered couples. The main prerogative of such acts is the recognition of the parties? freedom to choose the court and the applicable law. The law governing the matrimonial property regimes, or the property consequences of registered partnerships, has universal scope. This agreement in the form envisaged, which is backed by the need for legal certainty and predictability of the applicable rules, means that the spouses, in family problems which ha…

Modelling and analysing oriented fibrous structures

2014

Abstract. A mathematical model for fibrous structures using a direction dependent scaling law is presented. The orientation of fibrous nets (e.g. paper) is analysed with a method based on the curvelet transform. The curvelet-based orientation analysis has been tested successfully on real data from paper samples: the major directions of fibrefibre orientation can apparently be recovered. Similar results are achieved in tests on data simulated by the new model, allowing a comparison with ground truth. peerReviewed

Biodeterioration of the Wooden Roof of the Phnom Penh National Museum

2017

Within the framework of a training program in Cambodia, during a visit to the National Museum in Phnom Penh, the most important in the Kingdom of Cambodia, the authors noted the presence of some signs of a termite attack in the secondary elements of the roof of an inner garden. Following this observation, a further investigation was performed in order to evaluate the phytosanitary condition of the wooden bearing element of the roof. The inspection highlighted the presence of severe decay, constituting a real danger for the integrity of the roof; consequently, an intervention of restoration, conservation and safeguard was considered to be necessary and urgent. This paper presents the results…

Composition and corrosion phases of Etruscan Bronzes from Villanovan Age

2008

A neutron diffraction (ND) and neutron tomography (NT) study of laminated ancient bronzes was performed at the ISIS (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK) neutron source and at the BENSC reactor (Hahn-Meitner Institut, Germany). The samples are part of an 8th century BC Etruscan collection discovered in the necropolises of Osteria-Poggio Mengarelli and Cavalupo in the Vulci area (Viterbo, Italy). The study allowed us to derive-in a totally non-destructive manner-information related to the main composition of the objects, possible presence of alterations and their nature, crusts and inclusions, as well as structure of the bulk. The presence of some components is linked to a variety of question…

Teachers’ professional agency in a centralisation-decentralisation system and a hierarchical cultural context : the case of Hong Kong

2022

Teachers are frontline actors in actualising educational innovations. In some contexts, teachers’ professional agency is undervalued. This study investigated teachers’ agency and its related workplace affordances in Hong Kong, which features a centralised-decentralisation education governance system, and a hierarchical work culture. The study was based on 21 semi-structured interviews with teachers, and employed a deductive thematic analysis. Agency enactment was categorised into 1) pedagogical agency within classrooms, and 2) relational agency in the professional community. The factors contributing to workplace affordances were grouped as pertaining to 1) the collegial community, 2) school…

Experimental evidence for transverse wobbling bands in 136Nd

2022

The nature of two high-spin bands in 136Nd built on the two-quasiparticle configuration πh211/2, predicted by the triaxial projected shell model as good candidates of transverse wobbling bands, are investigated experimentally. The mixing ratio of one ΔI=1 transition connecting the one-phonon and the zero-phonon wobbling bands is established from a high-statistics JuroGam II γ-ray spectroscopy experiment by using the combined angular correlation and linear polarization method. The resulting wobbling excitation energy and ratios of reduced electromagnetic transition probabilities are in good agreement with results of a new particle-rotor model which rigidly couples the total angular momentum …

An IPMSM torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratio optimization

2014

In this paper, a torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratio optimization procedure for interior permanent magnet syncronous motors (IPMSMs) is presented. More in detail, a performance comparison between several IPMSM rotor structures has been carried out in order to determine the optimum geometry that can maximize the torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratios. A commercial motor, with known electrical and mechanical characteristics, has been taken as reference. Its rotor structure has been modified several times, obtaining different rotor geometries and, therefore, many IPMSM models with different electrical and mechanical characteristics. The finite element method (FEM) analy…
