The Contingent Negative Variation – An Electrophysiological Correlate of Temporal Processing or Reference Memory?
2014
Abstract In EEG research, the contingent negative variation (CNV) is considered to be strongly related to interval timing (e.g., Macar & Vidal, 2004 ; Macar, Vidal, & Casini, 1999). However, it is discussed controversially whether certain properties of the CNV (e.g., amplitude, peak latency and resolution) directly reflect the process of temporal accumulation or rather processes related to reference memory or decision stages in temporal information processing (van Rijn et al., 2011). This present study was designed in order to investigate the relationship between CNV mean amplitude, CNV resolution, and memory processes as well as processes of temporal accumulation. The task design aimed at …

BackgroundIncreased reaction time variability (RTV) on cognitive tasks requiring a speeded response is characteristic of several psychiatric disorders. In attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the association with RTV is strong phenotypically and genetically, yet high RTV is not a stable impairment but shows ADHD-sensitive improvement under certain conditions, such as those with rewards. The state regulation theory proposed that the RTV difference score, which captures change from baseline to a rewarded or fast condition, specifically measures ‘state regulation’. By contrast, the interpretation of RTV baseline (slow, unrewarded) scores is debated. We aimed to investigate directly…

Dietary Sugar and Fat Exposure : Determinants and Links with Sweet Taste Liking and Fat Sensation Liking
2017
Context : Dietary exposures in the first year of life could play a role in the development of food preferences in children. Aims : To characterize dietary sweet and fat exposures in infancy and to study their links with sweet taste and fat sensation liking in school-aged children. Methods : During the first year, dietary sweet and fat exposures were assessed with a nutritional approach in the EDEN study and with a sensory approach in the OPALINE study. Next, early factors related to these dietary sweet and fat exposures were analyzed. Associations between the nutritional sweet and fat exposure and sweet taste and fat sensation liking scores in 9-to-12 y old children in the EDEN study were s…
Doing Mathematics with Tools: One Task, Four Tools
2016
This chapter illustrates a variety of mathematical and educational issues arising from doing a single task with different tools. One task is considered, bisect an angle. The chapter has four sections, each devoted to issues in using one tool to complete this task: a straight edge and compass; a protractor; a dynamic geometry system; and a book.
Análisis de los modelos matemáticos producidos durante la resolución de problemas de Fermi
2017
[EN] In this paper, we present an analysis of written productions of 16 year-old students while solving Estimation Problems involving Big Numbers (EPiBN). This kind of problems is a particular type of Fermi problems and allows us to introduce modelling processes in Secondary school classrooms. Our analysis supports on the characterization of mathematical models developed by students based on the model definition of Lesh and Harel. The results show that, through the analysis of EPiBN resolutions, differentiating aspects can be distinguished between the models produced by students without modelling experience of those produced by students with prior experience, especially in the concepts and …

Repeated prime-target pairs in a lexical decision task showed improvement across 4 stimulus onset asynchronies for a single subject.
A Fair Share of Work: Is Fairness of Task Distribution a Mediator Between Transformational Leadership and Follower Emotional Exhaustion?
2019
Drawing on social resource theory and the norm of equity, this research proposes fairness of task distribution as a mediating mechanism of the well-established relationship between transformational leadership and followers’ well-being, conceptualizing the latter as low emotional exhaustion. Using data from 479 German employees in a three-wave longitudinal study, we found transformational leadership to be related to fair task distribution over time. The perceived fairness of task distribution mediated the relationship between transformational leadership and follower emotional exhaustion (structural equation modeling) when excluding stabilities. Our results also show a reverse causation effec…
