Tau neutrinos in the next decade: from GeV to EeV
2022
Tau neutrinos are the least studied particle in the standard model. This whitepaper discusses the current and expected upcoming status of tau neutrino physics with attention to the broad experimental and theoretical landscape spanning long-baseline, beam-dump, collider, and astrophysical experiments. This whitepaper was prepared as a part of the NuTau2021 Workshop.
Islāms mūsdienu Ķīnā: etniski politisks raksturojums

Izpētīt pašreizējo islāma stāvokli Ķīnā, noteikt un prognozēt paredzamo islāma attīstību Ķīnā, sagaidāmos izaicinājumus un vēsturiskās norises. Darba metode ir salīdzinoši analītiska. Tā paredz dažādu Ķīnas etnosu un reliģiskās piederības salīdzinājumu un šo grupu pārstāvju sociāli politisko tiesību diferenciāciju valstī. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no trim daļām. Darba pirmā daļa veltīta islāma vesturei un tā attiecībām ar citām Ķīnas reliģijām un politisko varu. Otrā daļa veltīta etnosiem, kuri praktizē islāmu– tiek aprakstīts mūsdienu stāvoklis. Trešā daļa veltīta musulmaņu tiesībām. Darba apjoms ir 49. lpp.
Major Differences in Minor Allometries: A Reply to Moczek.

Abstract: By comparing alternative measurements of horn length in the beetle Onthophagus taurus, we have investigated why scaling patterns differ between laboratories. We show that some measurements are confounded by including part of the head in the horn size measurement and consistently underestimate the allometry of horns in minor males. Our data show how linear measures that avoid confounding horn length with head size produce scaling patterns that support a positive allometry rather than a reprogramming model of horn growth. We also found horn volume was highly positively allometric this estimate of growth therefore further supports a positive allometry model.

LU Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģiju kolekciju herbārijā glabājas vairāki alpu kreimules herbāriji, kas ievākti gan Igaunijā, gan Latvijā. Auga vienīgā dabiskā augtene Latvijā bija Staburags, kas tika apludināts līdz ar HES būvniecību. Vēlākos gados tā bija atrodama arī Raunas Staburagā. Alpu kreimules paraugi LU Muzejā glabājas Herbarium Latvicum (RIG II), Herbarium Balticum (RIG I), Herbarium Lakshewitzi (RIG III) un Jāņa Ilstera herbārijā. Herbarium Latvicum glabājas senākais zināmais alpu kreimules paraugs, kas ievākts 1867. gadā.
On the observability of T Tauri accretion shocks in the X-ray band

Context. High resolution X-ray observations of classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs) show a soft X-ray excess due to high density plasma (n_e=10^11-10^13 cm^-3). This emission has been attributed to shock-heated accreting material impacting onto the stellar surface. Aims. We investigate the observability of the shock-heated accreting material in the X-ray band as a function of the accretion stream properties (velocity, density, and metal abundance) in the case of plasma-beta<<1 in the post-shock zone. Methods. We use a 1-D hydrodynamic model describing the impact of an accretion stream onto the chromosphere, including the effects of radiative cooling, gravity and thermal conduction. We expl…
Hadron structure in tau -> KK pi nu_tau decays

We analyze the hadronization structure of both vector and axial-vector currents leading to tau -> KK pi nu(tau) decays. At leading order in the 1/N-C expansion, and considering only the contribution of the lightest resonances, we work out, within the framework of the resonance chiral Lagrangian, the structure of the local vertices involved in those processes. The couplings in the resonance theory are constrained by imposing the asymptotic behavior of vector and axial-vector spectral functions ruled by QCD. The tau -> pi pi pi nu(tau) decay is driven by the hadronization of the axial-vector current. Within the resonance chiral theory, and considering the large-N-C expansion, this process has been studied in Ref. [1] (D. Gomez Dumm, A. Pich, J. Portoles, 2004). In the light of later developments we revise here this previous work by including a new off-shell width for the lightest a(1) resonance that provides a good description of the tau -> pi pi pi nu(tau) spectrum and branching ratio. We also consider the role of the rho(1450) resonance in these observables. Postać Jana Karola Chodkiewicza (1686–1712) z linii supraskiej nie doczekała się do tej pory swojego opracowania choćby w postaci noty biograficznej. Artykuł niniejszy przybliża więc wybrany fragment z życiorysu wyżej wymienionego bohatera, który w latach 1700–1705 przebywał na naukach w szkole jezuickiej w Warszawie. Okres nauk stanowił ważne wydarzenie w życiu młodych magnatów, którzy w ich ramach przygotowywali się do służby państwowej i funkcjonowania w społeczeństwie szlacheckim. Nie inaczej było w przypadku Jana Karola, dziedzica ogromnej fortuny chodkiewiczowskiej, który resztę swojego krótkiego życia spędził później na sporach o dobra ojczyste. Artykuł stanowi próbę zaprezentowania postaci Jana Karola Chodkiewicza z linii supraskiej (1686–1712), syna starosty błudeńskiego i oboźnego wielkiego litewskiego Jerzego Karola Chodkiewicza oraz Marianny Tekli z Naruszewiczów, który do tej pory nie doczekał się żadnego szerszego opracowania naukowego. Podstawę źródłową szkicu biograficznego Chodkiewicza stanowią materiały przechowywane w Archiwum Narodowym w Krakowie, w zespole Archiwum Młynowskie Chodkiewiczów. Różnorodność znajdujących się w nim dokumentów pozwoliła na możliwie jak najdokładniejsze odtworzenie jego życiorysu. Z niego wyłania się postać Jana Karola, który osierocony przez ojca w dzieciństwie zdany był na opiekę swojej mat…
