Allium achaium Boiss. & Orph. ex Boiss. (Alliaceae), a critical species of Greek flora
2011
Allium achaium Boiss. & Orph. ex Boiss. (Alliaceae), a critical and misappreciated species of Greek flora is investigated from taxonomic point of view and illustrated. It belongs to A. sect. Codonoprasum and shows close relationships with the taxa of the A. stamineum Boiss group. Besides, its karyology, ecology and distribution are examined.
Allium makrianum (Alliaceae), a new autumnal species from Greece
2010
Allium makrianum is described as a new species growing on the limestone of the Chios, north-eastern Aegean island (Greece). It is a very rare autumnal geophyte, showing some relationship with A. archeotrichon from Rhodos. Its iconography, morphology, chromosome number (2n=16), leaf anatomy, ecology and taxonomy are examined.
Considerazioni tassonomiche e cariologiche sulle popolazioni siciliane di Sternbergia colchiciflora Waldst. & Kit. (Amaryllidaceae)
2004
A citotaxonomic study on two Sicilian populations of Sternbergia colchiciflora from Madonie and Mt. Etna was carried out. They show marked differences in their morphology and caryology. This suggests to treat them as two distinct taxa, but their correct taxonomic position needs further investigation on other populations of Sternbergia colchiciflora from Mediterranean area
The beginning of the Neolithic in Nerja cave and la Cova de la Sarsa. Archaeological context and radiocarbon dating
2018
Transcriptome data reveal syndermatan relationships and suggest the evolution of endoparasitism in acanthocephala via an epizoic stage
2014
The taxon Syndermata comprises the biologically interesting wheel animals ("Rotifera": Bdelloidea + Monogononta + Seisonidea) and thorny-headed worms (Acanthocephala), and is central for testing superordinate phylogenetic hypotheses (Platyzoa, Gnathifera) in the metazoan tree of life. Recent analyses of syndermatan phylogeny suggested paraphyly of Eurotatoria (free-living bdelloids and monogononts) with respect to endoparasitic acanthocephalans. Data of epizoic seisonids, however, were absent, which may have affected the branching order within the syndermatan clade. Moreover, the position of Seisonidea within Syndermata should help in understanding the evolution of acanthocephalan endoparas…
Taxonomic notes and critical discussion on the status of Hydnum notarisii (Basidiomycota) through the evaluation of Giuseppe Inzenga's original study…
2016
The current taxonomic status of Hydnum notarisii Inzenga is here critically analyzed on the basis of Giuseppe Inzenga’s original description and of the specimens kept in his private herbarium hosted in the Istituto Agrario Castelnuovo (Palermo, Italy) and in the Herbarium of Museum of Evolution, Uppsala University, Sweden (UPS). The detailed morphological study of the original dried material through the use of compound optical and scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that this particular fungus possesses very similar features with Hericium erinaceus (Bull.) Pers.
Diversity in the genus Hieracium Linnaeus s.str. (Asteraceae) in Sicily
2015
The present taxonomic and floristic knowledges on Hieracium L. s. str. in Sicily are commented. In total, 11 taxa occur in this island, 10 of which are endemic and 1 has a wider range. For each of these taxa, biological form, phenology, distribution, ecology, chromosome number, conservation, and taxonomy are taken in consideration. A key to the taxa is also provided.
Charybdis glaucophylla (Asparagaceae), a new species from Sardinia
2012
Charybdis glaucophylla (Asparagaceae), a new species from Sardinia, is described and illustrated. It is a diploid species with 2n = 20 chromosomes growing along the rocky coast, sandy dunes and mountain top in the south-western part of the island. Within the genus, this species results taxonomically well isolated and differentiated due to relevant morphological and phenological features, such as the leaves wide and short, very rigid and glaucous-pruinose, as well as the very late foliation (winter). It shows only some relationships with C. pancration for the whitish bulb tunics and the diploid chromosome complement, and with C. maura and C. aphylla due to the glaucous leaves.
New records of Asteraceae for the non-native flora of Tunisia and north Africa with some nomenclatural remarks
2022
International audience; Sixteen new Asteraceae are added to the non-indigenous flora of Tunisia. Six of them (Dimorphotheca ecklonis, Gaillardia pulchella, Gazania linearis var. linearis, Guizotia abyssinica, Rudbeckia triloba and Tithonia diversifolia) are also new for the flora of North Africa. Chrysanthemum morifolium is here first reported for the Mediterranean Basin. Seven genera (Argyranthemum, Bidens, Dimorphotheca, Gaillardia, Guizotia, Rudbeckia and Tithonia) are recorded for the first time for the vascular flora of Tunisia. Most of these species escaped from gardens and pots and became casual along roadsides and/or disturbed areas after cypsela dispersion (except for Chrysanthemum…
A scoping review on interventions to promote physical activity among adults with disabilities
2016
People with disabilities are at increased risk for obesity as well as other secondary conditions that lead to further decline in health and functional status. Despite there being strong evidence that physical activity (PA) can help to reduce the incidence and severity of preventable conditions, approximately half of all adults with disabilities get no regular physical activity. In addition, there is limited knowledge on the PA promotion interventions effectiveness among individuals with disabilities. Recently the Behaviour Change Techniques Taxonomy version 1 (BCT Taxonomy v1) became available as a method for reporting, replicating, and synthesizing research evidence, yet it is lacking in s…
