Investigation of a tunnel pasteurizer for “Nocellara del Belice” table olives processed according to the “Castelvetrano method”

The influence of pasteurization temperature and time of treatment on the flesh firmness and the evolution of microbial communities was studied for table olives Cv. Nocellara del Belice, packed in glass jars and processed with a tunnel pasteurizer. The experiment was first carried out on the laboratory level in order to select the optimal combination of pasteurization time/temperature so as to obtain the proper balance between the consistency of the pulp and the microbiological quality of the final product. Automated Detection of Optic Disc Location in Retinal Images

This contribution presents an automated method to locate the optic disc in color fundus images. The method uses texture descriptors and a regression based method in order to determine the best circle that fits the optic disc. The best circle is chosen from a set of circles determined with an innovative method, not using the Hough transform as past approaches. An evaluation of the proposed method has been done using a database of 40 images. On this data set, our method achieved 95% success rate for the localization of the optic disc and 70% success rate for the identification of the optic disc contour (as a circle).

Perspective on Curved Surfaces in the Age of Pozzo: The Nuova Pratica di Prospettiva of Paolo Amato

The study focuses an almost unknown treatise on perspective, The Nuova Pratica di Prospettiva, written by the priest Paolo Amato (1634–1714) in the last years of his life and published posthumously in 1733. The main points of interest of the Nuova Pratica is the perspective projection on cylindrical surfaces, which exceeds the coeval ‘practical’ treatises on perspective. A detailed resume of Amato’s treatise is accompanied by geometric schemes illustrating the perspective method proposed by the author. Fitting particle size distribution models to data from Burundian soils for the BEST procedure and other purposes

Testing the Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer (BEST) soil particle size distribution (PSD) model is necessary to evaluate the applicability of the BEST procedure for characterising soil hydraulics. In this investigation, the fitting performance of the BEST PSD model was tested using a database of 114 Burundian soils with 14 measured particle size fractions for each soil sample, and also by considering a reduced number of measured particle size fractions for a sample. The fitting performance of the model developed by Fredlund et al. (2000) (FR model) was also considered for comparative purposes. The first section of this chapter describes the evolutions in oral physiology (anatomical motor components, oral motor skills and feeding skills) in healthy children (< 3 years). We explore two bilarge neutrino mixing Anzatze within the context of Abelian flavor symmetry theories: (BL1) sin theta(12) similar to lambda, sin theta(13) similar to lambda, sin theta(23) similar to lambda, and (BL2) sin theta(12) similar to lambda, sin theta(13) similar to lambda, sin theta(23) similar to 1 - lambda. The first pattern is proposed by two of us and is favored if the atmospheric mixing angle theta(23) lies in the first octant, while the second one is preferred for the second octant of theta(23). Since several decades, the camera spatial resolution is gradually increasing with the CMOS technology evolution. The image sensors provide more and more pixels, generating new constraints for the suitable optics. As an alternative, promising solutions propose Super Resolution (SR) image reconstruction to extend the image size without modifying the sensor architecture. A Clustering Approach to texture Classification

In the paper a clustering technique to segment an image in to “homogeneous” regions is studied. The homogeneity of each region is evaluated by means of a “proximity function” computed between the pixels. The main result of such approach is that no-histogramming is required in order to perform segmentation. Possibilistic and probabilistic approaches are, also, combined to evaluate the significativity of the computed regions.
