Multi-Connectivity in 5G and Beyond Non-Terrestrial Networks

2022

The Fifth Generation (5G) communications systems aim to serve such service classes as Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC), enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), and massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC). To meet the growing requirements posed to mobile networks, satellites can be used to complement the Terrestrial Networks (TNs). To increase the efficiency of the satellite communications involved, bandwidth-efficient techniques should be used. Multi- Connectivity (MC) is one such technique. In MC, a User Equipment (UE), for example, a smartphone, can be connected to multiple Next Generation Node Bs (gNBs) simultaneously. In this paper, an adaptive MC activation scheme for thr…

2019

Developmental disorders (DD) include malformative disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disability (ID) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). These clinical features can be isolated or combined in a given patient, they affect around 3% of worldwide population. These disorders are responsible for major morbidity and mortality, for hospitalization especially in pediatric departments, for disabilities and, therefore, this represents a public health priority. Since 2004, in France, several national plans were conducted and extended, the last one being the 3rd National Plan for Rare Disorders (PNMR 2018-2022) which include 10 main goals, among others increasing diagnosis…

Community Composition, Antifungal Activity and Chemical Analyses of Ant-Derived Actinobacteria

2020

Actinobacteria associated with insects represent one potentially rich source of novel natural products with antifungal activity. Here, we investigated the phylogenetic diversity and community composition of actinobacteria associated with ants using a combination of culture-dependent and -independent methods. Further, we assessed the antagonistic activity against phytopathogenic fungi and identified the secondary metabolites from isolates with bioactivity. A total of 416 actinobacterial isolates were obtained from three ant species (Camponotus japonicus, Lasius fuliginosus, and Lasius flavus) located in five nests. The largest amount of isolates were observed in the head samples. 16S rRNA ge…

Liquid Biopsy in Gynecological Cancers

2017

Gynecological cancers originate in woman’s reproductive organs, including ovarian, uterine or endometrial, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. These tumors are a leading health problem for women accounting for more than 20% of new cases and cancer-related deaths worldwide. Gynecological cancers are characterized by an aggressive biological behavior with a clinical presentation often in advanced stage of disease. This chapter will focus on the potential role of the novel molecular approaches based on liquid biopsy in detecting occult disease, monitoring the progression and identifying treatment-resistance in gynecological cancer patients. The ability to detect circulating tumor DNA (ct-DN…

Joint Power Allocation and Link Selection for Multi-Carrier Buffer Aided Relay Network

2019

In this paper, we present a joint power allocation and adaptive link selection protocol for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based network consists of one source node i.e., base station (BS), one destination node i.e., (MU) and a buffer aided decode and forward (DF) relay node. Our objective is to maximize the average throughput of the system via power loading over different subcarriers at source and relay nodes. A separate power budget is assumed at each transmitting node to make the system more practical. In order to form our solution more tractable, a decomposition framework is implemented to solve the mixed integer optimization problem. Further, less complex suboptim…

Evolution of common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) resistance to herbicides : identification of genetic determinisms and application to molecular …

2022

Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.), a particularly troublesome and allergenic weed, is mainly controlled in agricultural fields using ALS inhibitor herbicides. Recent cases of herbicide resistance have been reported in France and are jeopardising the efficacy of this mode of action. Both target site resistance (TSR, structural mutation in ALS gene) and non target site resistance (NTSR, regulatory and/or structural mutations in secondary metabolism) are involved. The fundamental aim of this work was to identify the genetic determinisms of resistance to ALS inhibitors that have evolved in common ragweed populations in France. As an applied objective, this work also aimed to prepare t…

WWOX-related encephalopathies: delineation of the phenotypical spectrum and emerging genotype-phenotype correlation

2014

International audience; BACKGROUND:Homozygous mutations in WWOX were reported in eight individuals of two families with autosomal recessive spinocerebellar ataxia type 12 and in two siblings with infantile epileptic encephalopathy (IEE), including one who deceased prior to DNA sampling.METHODS:By combining array comparative genomic hybridisation, targeted Sanger sequencing and next generation sequencing, we identified five further patients from four families with IEE due to biallelic alterations of WWOX.RESULTS:We identified eight deleterious WWOX alleles consisting in four deletions, a four base-pair frameshifting deletion, one missense and two nonsense mutations. Genotype-phenotype correl…

GnS-PIPE: an optimized bionformatic pipeline to efficiently assess microbial taxonomic diversity of complex environments using high throughput sequen…

2013

International audience; The rRNA genes (16S, 18S, ITS) are widely used to study microbial communities in soils, as they can be easily amplified from metagenomic DNA. Moreover, the recent development of high-throughput sequencing technologies allows the assessment of millions of sequences from a single metagenomic DNA. Some pipelines are already available (e.g. QIIME or Mothur) to efficiently treat such data. However, the development of bioinformatic tools must now be validated by various biological tests. This was particularly true for key steps to appraise microbial diversity and richness. Here, we present a new pipeline named GnS-PIPE, a software application performing bacterial, archaeal…
