This monograph synthesizes several studies spanning from dynamical systems in the statistical analysis of sequences, to analysis of algorithms in random trees and discrete stochastic processes. These works find applications in various fields ranging from biological sequences to linear regression models, branching processes, through functional statistics and estimates of risk indicators for insurances. All the established results use, in one way or another, the recursive property of the structure under study, by highlighting invariants such as martingales, which are at the heart of this monograph, as tools as well as objects of study.

Here we provide the data set obtained as described in detail in Estrany et al. (2020, doi:10.5194/nhess-2019-304); a brief description is presented below. A hydrometric gauging station is located where the Begura de Salma River enters Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, a village located in the northeastern part of Mallorca island (Spain). The station was built by the water authority in the 1970s. After years of abandonment, in 2015 the MEDhyCON Research Group installed within the gauge house a Hobo Water Level U20L-04, which measures the water stage by 1-minute readings, accumulating 15-minute average values. We reviewed the long-term results at ten to 12 years of 118 total hip replacements in 109 patients using a second-generation hemispherical cementless acetabular component (Reflection) designed to address the problem of backside wear. Five patients (five hips) died and six patients (seven hips) were lost to follow-up.
