Background: An attentional bias to health-threat stimuli is assumed to represent the primary pathogenetic factor for the development and maintenance of pathological health anxiety (PHA; formerly termed “hypochondriasis”). Effects of dynamic exercise and metabolic control on left ventricular performance in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

In subclinical diabetic cardiomyopathy, previous reports did not positively correlate the altered cardiac performance with metabolic parameters. Fifteen insulin-dependent diabetic subjects, without any clinical or instrumental evidence of heart diseases, were studied. Signs of diabetic microangiopathy were absent. Systolic time intervals, metabolic and hormonal parameters (blood glucose, free fatty acids, blood lactate and plasma norepinephrine) were evaluated at rest and after dynamic exercise during poor (MAGE 6.36 +/- 0.72 mmol/l) and good (MAGE 3.46 +/- 0.66 mmol/l) metabolic control, obtained by means of insulin therapy. Comparison of Foot and Hand Reaction Times among Men: A Methodologic Study Using Simple and Multiple-Choice Repeated Measurements

The primary study goal was to compare visual simple and choice reaction times of the hand and foot to assess validity of measurements for evaluating subjects' ability to perform rapid, controlled movements. First, we examined the repeatability ( N = 34) for four different data-sampling methods from a series of 12 trials within sessions and between two test sessions. Simple and choice reaction times with the preferred hand and both feet were then compared among 153 healthy male volunteers aged 35 to 67 years. Verbal initiation, suppression and strategy generation/use are cognitive processes widely held to be supported by the frontal cortex. The Hayling Test was designed to tap these cognitive processes within the same sentence completion task. An evaluation score of the difficulty of thyroidectomy considering operating time and preservation of recurrent laryngeal nerve.

The purpose of this study was to edit a renovated thyroidectomy difficulty scale (rTDS) in order to identify underlying thyroid diseases with a longer operative time and higher technical difficulty, also considering preservation of recurrent laryngeal nerve. We developed a renovated scale with a maximum score of 20 points by creating a form in which five variables were considered: vascularity, friability, mobility/fibrosis, gland size and difficulty in preservation of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Abstract In the present study, using the mental chronometry paradigm, we examined the hypothesis that during motor imagery the brain uses a forward internal model of arm inertial properties to predict the motion of the arm in different dynamic states.
