Impact of chronic total occlusion artery on 12-month mortality in patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction treated by percutaneou…

2013

Abstract Background Three-vessel coronary artery disease is associated with high mortality in patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). The purpose of this study was to assess the impact on 12‐month mortality of chronic total occlusion (CTO) in the non-infarct-related artery (non-IRA), as assessed by coronary angiography during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for NSTEMI, of patients with 3-vessel disease. Methods The study included all of the NSTEMI patients with 3-vessel disease by coronary angiogram who were treated by PCI and who were registered in the prospective Polish Registry of Acute Coronary Syndromes (PL-ACS) from July 2007 to November 2009. T…

Percutaneous coronary intervention of chronic total occlusions in patients with low left ventricular ejection fraction

2017

Abstract Objectives The study sought to assess the outcome of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of chronic total occlusions (CTOs) in patients with low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (≤35%). Background Data regarding the outcome of PCI in patients with low LVEF affected by CTO are scarcely reported. Methods The authors performed a prospective longitudinal multicenter study including consecutive patients undergoing elective PCI of CTOs. Patients were subdivided into 3 groups: group 1 (LVEF ≥50%), group 2 (LVEF 35% to 50%), and group 3 (LVEF ≤35%). Results A total of 839 patients (mean 64.6 ± 10.5 years of age, 87.7% men) underwent CTO PCI attempts. Baseline LVEF ≤35% was pr…

European experience with the retrograde approach for the recanalization of coronary artery chronic total occlusions. A report on behalf of the EuroCT…

2008

Aims Recanalisation rates of coronary chronic total occlusions (CTO) remain sub-optimal. The retrograde technique was recently introduced to improve success rates. Methods and results From February 2005 until December 2007, 175 patients were treated with this technique in seven European centres by highly experienced operators: in 84 (48%) as primary strategy, in 41 (23.5%) immediately after antegrade failure and in 50 (28.5%) as a repeat procedure after previous antegrade failure. Baseline characteristics revealed a mean age 61.4 +/- 10.8 years with 29.5% and 39% of patients having diabetes and a prior history of MI, respectively. The mean occlusion duration was 50.8 months (determined in 3…

Management strategies in patients affected by chronic total occlusions: results from the Italian Registry of Chronic Total Occlusions

2015

Background Through contemporary literature, the optimal strategy to manage coronary chronic total occlusions (CTOs) remains under debate. Objectives The aim of the Italian Registry of Chronic Total Occlusions (IRCTO) was to provide data on prevalence, characteristics, and outcome of CTO patients according to the management strategy. Methods The IRCTO is a prospective real world multicentre registry enrolling patients showing at least one CTO. Clinical and angiographic data were collected independently from the therapeutic strategy [optimal medical therapy (MT), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)]; a comparative 1-year clinical followup was pe…

Preliminary results on direct quantitative determination of cocaine in impregnated materials by infrared spectroscopy

2018

Abstract Partial least squares models were built for the direct determination of cocaine in seized impregnated smuggled materials. Measurements are based on the attenuated total reflectance middle infrared spectra (ATR-MIR) and diffuse reflectance spectra in the near range (DR-NIR) obtained directly from the surface of the impregnated materials. The aforementioned procedures offer fast, cheap and environmentally friendly green alternatives to the reference method based on the extraction of the drug and its quantification by gas chromatography. Additionally it has been verified that results found are statistically comparable with those obtained by the reference method with root mean square e…

MCM-41-CdS nanoparticle composite material: Preparation and characterization

2010

The preparation and characterization of a hierarchical material constituted by a mesoporous silica MCM-41 whose mesochannels contain CdS nanoparticles capped with both bis(2-ethylhexyl) amine and bis(2-ethylhexyl) sodium sulfosuccinate is reported. MCM-41 powder was synthesized by using the LCT methodology. CdS nanoparticles were obtained within the inversed micelle core of a water/ AOT/n-heptane microemulsion. Nanoparticles growth was followed by means of UV–Vis spectroscopy and was inhibited by BEA addition. The CdS-capped nanoparticles were separated by centrifugation, washed with water and ethanol and finally dispersed in n-heptane. The insertion of CdS nanoparticles into MCM-41 mesocha…

Effect of hydraulic coefficient on membrane performance for rejection of emerging contaminants

2018

International audience; The efficient removal of Endocrine Disruptive Chemicals (EDCs) namely oxybenzone and atrazine using polysulfone (PSf) composite membranes is reported in this article. A negatively charged hydrophilic mixed matrix membrane was prepared by using Polyaniline modified halloysite nanotubes (PANi-HNT) and polysulfone. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and attenuated total reflectance infrared (ATR-IR) technique confirm the conversion of Halloysite nanotubes to Polyaniline modified halloysite nanotubes and their presence in membrane matrix. The microvoids observable in the SEM images depict the internal structure of the membrane. Further, increasing in the water uptake and decrea…

The electronic structure of zircon-type orthovanadates: Effects of high-pressure and cation substitution

2012

The electronic structure of four ternary-metal oxides containing isolated vanadate ions is studied. Zircon-type YVO4, YbVO4, LuVO4, and NdVO4 are investigated by high-pressure optical-absorption measurements up to 20 GPa. First-principles calculations based on density-functional theory were also performed to analyze the electronic band structure as a function of pressure. The electronic structure near the Fermi level originates largely from molecular orbitals of the vanadate ion, but cation substitution influence these electronic states. The studied ortovanadates, with the exception of NdVO4, undergo a zircon-scheelite structural phase transition that causes a collapse of the band-gap energ…

Effect of hydroxyapatite concentration and size on morpho-mechanical properties of PLA-based randomly oriented and aligned electrospun nanofibrous ma…

2019

The growing demand for nanofibrous biocomposites able to provide peculiar properties requires systematic investigations of processing-structure-property relationships. Understanding the morpho-mechanical properties of an electrospun scaffold as a function of the filler features and mat microstructure can aid in designing these systems. In this work, the reinforcing effect of micrometric and nanometric hydroxyapatite particles in polylactic acid-based electrospun scaffold presenting random and aligned fibers orientation, was evaluated. The particles incorporation was investigated trough Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in attenuated total reflectance. The morphology of the nanofibers …
