GRB 090313 AND THE ORIGIN OF OPTICAL PEAKS IN GAMMA-RAY BURST LIGHT CURVES: IMPLICATIONS FOR LORENTZ FACTORS AND RADIO FLARES

2010

We use a sample of 19 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) that exhibit single-peaked optical light curves to test the standard fireball model by investigating the relationship between the time of the onset of the afterglow and the temporal rising index. Our sample includes GRBs and X-ray flashes for which we derive a wide range of initial Lorentz factors (40 < Γ < 450). Using plausible model parameters, the typical frequency of the forward shock is expected to lie close to the optical band; within this low typical frequency framework, we use the optical data to constrain εe and show that values derived from the early time light-curve properties are consistent with published typical values derived from …

Evidence of oblate-prolate shape coexistence in the strongly-deformed nucleus 119Cs

2021

International audience; Prolate-oblate shape coexistence close to the ground state in the strongly-deformed proton-rich A≈120 nuclei is reported for the first time. One of the four reported bands in 119Cs, built on a 11/2− state at 670 keV, consists of nearly degenerate signature partners, and has properties which unequivocally indicate the strongly-coupled πh11/2[505]11/2− configuration associated with oblate shape. Together with the decoupled πh11/2[541]3/2− band built on the 11/2− prolate state at 110 keV, for which a half-life of T1/2=55(5)μs has been measured, the new bands bring evidence of shape coexistence at low spin in the proton-rich strongly deformed A≈120 nuclei, a phenomenon p…

Trasformazione e riuso dei vuoti urbani: quattro casi studio

2016

TP53 and p16INK4A, but not H-KI-Ras, are involved in tumorigenesis and progression of pleomorphic adenomas.

2006

The putative role of TP53 and p16INK4A tumor suppressor genes and Ras oncogenes in the development and progression of salivary gland neoplasias was studied in 28 cases of pleomorphic adenomas (PA), 4 cases of cystic adenocarcinomas, and 1 case of carcinoma ex-PA. Genetic and epigenetic alterations in the above genes were analyzed by Polymerase Chain Reaction/Single Strand Conformational Polymorphism (PCR/SSCP) and sequencing and by Methylation Specific-PCR (MS-PCR). Mutations in TP53 were found in 14% (4/28) of PAs and in 60% (3/5) of carcinomas. Mutations in H-Ras and K-Ras were identified in4%(1/28) and7% (2/28) of PAs, respectively. Only 20% (1/5) of carcinomas screened displayed mutatio…

Endoscopic therapy of adenomas of the papilla of Vater. A retrospective analysis with long-term follow-up.

2001

Abstract Aims. To compare the efficacy and the complication rate between endoscopic snare resection of adenomas of Vater's papilla and endoscopic palliation. Methods. In a retrospective, non randomized manner, we compared long-term results of our endoscopic strategies in 36 patients with histologically confirmed adenoma of Vater's papilla submitted either to local endoscopic snare resection (n=18) or to simple endoscopic palliation (n=18), respectively. Results. Between 1985 and 1998 results were reviewed. Median age was 76.5 (range 42–89) years in the palliation, and 64.0(23–89) years in the endoscopic snare resection group. Median duration of follow-up was 33 (6–135) and 75.0 (27–123) mon…

Toxic adenoma and papillary thyroid carcinoma in a patient with Graves' disease.

1999

A case of a very rare association of toxic adenoma and papillary carcinoma with Graves’ disease is presented. A 34-year-old woman developed Graves’ disease with mild ophthalmopathy. An ultrasound revealed diffuse thyroid enlargement with a hypoechoic pattern and a hypoechoic nodule with regular edges of 1.6 cm in diameter at the lower pole of the left lobe. A thyroid 131I scintiscan showed a diffuse and homogeneous 131I distribution. The 131I uptake (RAIU) was elevated. One year later, while still on a low dose of methimazole, the patient had a recurrence of hyperthyroidism following an iodine load from a contrast agent. A further thyroid ultrasound confirmed the previously described patter…

Novel mutations of the MET proto-oncogene in papillary renal carcinomas.

1999

Hereditary papillary renal carcinoma (HPRC) is characterized by multiple, bilateral papillary renal carcinomas. Previously, we demonstrated missense mutations in the tyrosine kinase domain of the MET proto-oncogene in HPRC and a subset of sporadic papillary renal carcinomas. In this study, we screened a large panel of sporadic papillary renal carcinomas and various solid tumors for mutations in the MET proto-oncogene. Summarizing these and previous results, mutations of the MET proto-oncogene were detected in 17/129 sporadic papillary renal carcinomas but not in other solid tumors. We detected five novel missense mutations; three of five mutations were located in the ATP-binding region of t…

Grades of atypia in tubular and villous adenomas of the human colon. An electron microscopic study.

1980

Of a total of 544 tubular, villous and tubulo-villous adenomas of the human colon which were investigated by light microscopy, six tubular and six villous adenomas were examined under the electron microscope. It was shown that the two types of adenoma differ in their tissue architecture, but not in their cytological appearance. Different grades of epithelial atypia occur in both types of adenoma. These are designated as grades I to III, correspond to mild, moderate and severe atypia respectively. Whereas adenoma cells with atypia grade I clearly show a cytological relationship with crypt epithelia of the normal colonic mucosa under the electron microscope, adenoma cells with atypia grade II…

Multidirectional differentiation in a newly established human epithelioid sarcoma cell line (GRU-1) with co-expression of vimentin, cytokeratins and …

1990

A new permanent cell line (GRU-1) derived from the lymph-node metastasis of a human epithelioid sarcoma was established in tissue culture. Immunohistochemically, the original tumor had exhibited an intriguing potential for multidirectional differentiation with features of mesenchymal, epithelial and neural differentiation, evidenced by the co-expression of vimentin, cytokeratins and neurofilament proteins, respectively. This capability for multidirectional differentiation was fully preserved in the cultured cells. GRU-1 tumor cells proved to be uniformly positive for vimentin and a considerable proportion of the tumor cells exhibited a positive reaction for cytokeratins and neurofilament pr…
