Cyclists' Perception of Maintenance and Operation of Cycling Infrastructure—Results From a Norwegian Survey
2021
Aasvik O and Bjørnskau T (2021) Cyclists’ Perception of Maintenance and Operation of Cycling Infrastructure—Results From a Norwegian Survey. Front. Psychol. 12:696317. doi: 10.3389/fpsyg.2021.696317 The Norwegian authorities want to limit the extent of car use in city areas to existing levels. Such a limitation would help combat climate change, improve health of citizens, and alleviate congestion. This implies that any further increase in transport needs will have to be met by walking, cycling and use of public transport. Reaching this ambitious goal requires knowledge about cyclists' preferences concerning operation and maintenance (M&O) of roads and foot/cycle paths. Previous research sug…

2022
The study was performed with the financial support from the Latvian Council of Science under the grant agreement LZP-2020/2-0009. Calculations were performed at the HLRS, University of Stuttgart, within the project 12939 DEFTD. The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (Latvia), as the Centre of Excellence has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Frame-work Programme H2020-WIDESPREAD-01-2016-2017-Teaming Phase2 under grant agreement No. 739508, project CAMART2.
Motor Transitions' Peculiarity of Heterozygous DAT Rats When Offspring of an Unconventional KOxWT Mating.
2020
Abstract Causal factors of psychiatric diseases are unclear, due to gene × environment interactions. Evaluation of consequences, after a dopamine-transporter (DAT) gene knock-out (DAT-KO), has enhanced our understanding into the pathological dynamics of several brain disorders, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity and Bipolar-Affective disorders. Recently, our attention has shifted to DAT hypo-functional (heterozygous, HET) rodents: HET dams display less maternal care and HET females display marked hypo-locomotion if cared by HET dams (Mariano et al., 2019). We assessed phenotypes of male DAT-heterozygous rats as a function of their parents: we compared “maternal” origin (MAT-HET, obtain…
Time-dependent Landauer—Büttiker formalism for superconducting junctions at arbitrary temperatures
2016
We discuss an extension of our earlier work on the time-dependent Landauer– Büttiker formalism for noninteracting electronic transport. The formalism can without complication be extended to superconducting central regions since the Green’s functions in the Nambu representation satisfy the same equations of motion which, in turn, leads to the same closed expression for the equal-time lesser Green’s function, i.e., for the time-dependent reduced one-particle density matrix. We further write the finite-temperature frequency integrals in terms of known special functions thereby considerably speeding up the computation. Simulations in simple normal metal – superconductor – normal metal junctions…
Identification of factors increasing the risk of pedestrian death in road accidents involving a pedestrian with a motor vehicle
2023
Walking is a basic form of activity for every human being and has many advantages, including health, economic and environmental benefits. Every journey made using various means of transport begins and ends on foot. As is well known, the group of road users particularly exposed to the risk of serious injury in road accidents, apart from cyclists, also includes pedestrians. These are the so-called vulnerable road users. Pedestrians are a group of road users that is often deprecated by many drivers of motor vehicles, but very important in road traffic. Pedestrian injuries and pedestrian fatalities have enormous social and economic consequences. The problem of high pedes-trian risk on Polish ro…
Model of hydrocarbons transport through the porous ground media
2014
Dispersion model of hydrocarbons transport in porous media has been presented. Mathematical description of this process allows to estimate whether the menace of ground waters can occur as a result of hydrocarbons transport through the soil. The convection term in the mass transport equation is taken into account due to the higher velocity of propagation in vertical direction. Additionally, introduction to the balance equation the biosorption link allows to take into account microorganisms influence on impurities concentration, especially on heavy oils derived compounds. To verify the theoretical model series of the experiment in the soil filter has been carried out.
Deregulated Copper Transport Affects Arabidopsis Development Especially in the Absence of Environmental Cycles
2010
Abstract Copper is an essential cofactor for key processes in plants, but it exerts harmful effects when in excess. Previous work has shown that the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) COPT1 high-affinity copper transport protein participates in copper uptake through plant root tips. Here, we show that COPT1 protein localizes to the plasma membrane of Arabidopsis cells and the phenotypic effects of transgenic plants overexpressing either COPT1 or COPT3, the latter being another high-affinity copper transport protein family member. Both transgenic lines exhibit increased endogenous copper levels and are sensitive to the copper in the growth medium. Additional phenotypes include decreased hypo…
Sustainable urban transport policy in emerging countries – case study of Mexico
2015
Probabilistic Evaluation of the Adaptation Time for Structures under Seismic Loads
2016
Abstract In this paper, a probabilistic approach for the evaluation of the adaptation time for elastic perfectly plastic frames is proposed. The considered load history acting on the structure is defined as a suitable combination of quasi-statical loads and seismic actions. The proposed approach utilizes the Monte Carlo method in order to generate a suitable large number of seismic acceleration histories and for each one the related load combination is defined. Furthermore, for each load combination the related adaptation time is determined, if any, as the optimal one for which the structure is able to shakedown under the unamplified applied actions. A known generalized Ceradini's theorem i…
Role of hypoxia in pemetrexed-resistance of mesothelioma mediated by proton-coupled folate transporter, and preclinical activity of new anti-LDH comp…
2018
Introduction There are few effective therapies for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), which remains one of the most lethal cancers. We previously demonstrated that low expression of the PCFT transporter, both at mRNA and protein levels, is associated with shorter survival of MPM patients treated with pemetrexed (Giovannetti et al., 2017). Since hypoxia has also been associated to antifolate-resistance (Raz et al, 2014), this study was aimed at elucidating key factors in pemetrexed resistance and hypoxia that may contribute to the rational development of novel therapeutic interventions against mesothelioma. Methods The levels of PCFT and of the hypoxia marker carbonic anhydrase-IX were de…
