Time Trends in Hospital-Referred Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack: Results of a 7-Year Nationwide Survey in France
2010
Background: Nationwide evaluations of the burden of stroke are scarce. We aimed to evaluate trends in stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) hospitalization, in-hospital case fatality rates (CFRs) and mortality rates in France during 2000–2006. Methods: Hospitalizations for stroke and TIA were determined from National Hospital Discharge Diagnosis Records that used the International Classification of Disease, 10th revision, codes I60, I61, I63, I64, G45, G46. CFRs and mortality rates were estimated from the national death certificates database. Results: The total number of stays for stroke increased between 2000 and 2006 (88,371 vs…
Ischemic Stroke With Atrial Fibrillation: Characteristics and Time Trends 2006 to 2017 in the Dijon Stroke Registry.
2021
Background and Purpose: Because of the aging population, an increase in the prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) is currently observed, thus leading to a rise in AF-related ischemic stroke (IS). We analyzed the current prevalence of AF among patients with IS, their characteristics, and temporal trends from 2006 to 2017 in the population-based Dijon Stroke Registry. Methods: We used data from the Dijon Stroke Registry, an ongoing population-based study that records all cases of acute stroke among residents of the city of Dijon. All patients with IS between 2006 and 2017 were included. Previous AF was defined if it was mentioned in the medical file before stroke and newly diagnosed AF if i…
Trends in Radical Prostatectomy Risk Group Distribution in a European Multicenter Analysis of 28 572 Patients: Towards Tailored Treatment
2019
Background: Active surveillance (AS) has been increasingly proposed as the preferential initial management strategy for low-risk prostate cancer (PC), while in high-risk PC the indication for surgery has widened. Objective: To evaluate the development of risk group distribution of patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP). Design, setting, and participants: Retrospective database review of combined RP databases (2000-2015) of four large European centers (Créteil, Paris; San Rafaele, Milan; Martini Klinik, Hamburg; NKI, AvL, Amsterdam). Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Clinical and pathological characteristics per year of surgery. Eligibility for AS was defined according …
Cohort Differences in Maximal Physical Performance: A Comparison of 75- and 80-Year-Old Men and Women Born 28 Years Apart
2020
Abstract Background Whether increased life expectancy is accompanied by increased functional capacity in older people at specific ages is unclear. We compared similar validated measures of maximal physical performance in 2 population-based older cohorts born and assessed 28 years apart. Method Participants in the first cohort were born in 1910 and 1914 and were assessed at age 75 and 80 years, respectively (N = 500, participation rate 77%). Participants in the second cohort were born in 1938 or 1939 and 1942 or 1943 and were assessed at age 75 and 80 years, respectively (N = 726, participation rate 40%). Participants were recruited using a population register and all community-dwelling pers…
School Satisfaction and School Pressure in the WHO European Region and North America: An Analysis of Time Trends (2002–2018) and Patterns of Co-occur…
2020
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the trends between 2002 and 2018 in school pressure and school satisfaction among 15-year-old students, across countries and by gender, in the WHO European region and North America, and explore whether there are variations between countries and by gender in the co-occurrence of school pressure and school satisfaction. Methods: Data from the 32 countries that participated in the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study (HBSC) study between 2002 and 2018 were used. Statistical analyses included ttests, binary logistic regression analyses, and chi-square tests, as required by each of the study aims. Results: School satisfaction tended to i…
La décomposition canonique et la cointégration
1994
This paper has introduced state space models for cointegrated time series. In doing so, the notion of cointegration is slightly generalized. We develop the notion of dynamic aggregation link with error correction model and common trends.
Non-stationarity tests and nonlinear trends
1992
This paper stresses the importance of the hypothesis of linearity of the deterministic component imposed by unit root testing procedures most frequently used in empirical literature. We suggest an empirical testing strategy which reduces the risk of reaching false conclusions due to the misspecification of that component and we apply it to the analysis of the nonstationarity exhibited by real GNP in France. We show that it is possible to find someflexible specifications which enable us to reject the unit root null hypothesis otherwise strongly supported in empirical literature. These specifications might be considered as approximations of the true process generating real GNP and might be us…
Statistical analysis of inter-arrival times of rainfall events for Italian Sub-Alpine and Mediterranean areas
2012
Abstract. In this work a set of time-series of inter-arrival times of rainfall events, at daily scale, was analysed, with the aim to verify the issue of increasing duration of dry periods. The set consists of 12 time-series recorded at rain gauges in 1926–2005, six of them belong to an Italian Sub-Alpine area (Piedmont) and six to a Mediterranean one (Sicily). In order to overcome the problem related to limited sample size for high values of inter-arrival times, the discrete probability polylog-series distribution was used to fit the empirical data from partial (20 yr) time-series. Moreover, a simple qualitative trend analysis was applied to some high quantiles of inter-arrival times as wel…
That twenty years is nothing for gravel-pit limnology
2020
[EN] The past twenty years have witnessed a rise in the analysis of long-term limnological data given the need to know whether global warming is affecting freshwaters, and if so, how. Previous studies indicated that processes affecting ecosystem function-ing may develop slowly, thus requiring long-term study, as in the case of the eutrophication-oligotrophication gradient. Here we report annual averages and seasonal variability of meteorological data (air temperature, solar radiation, rainfall) and the main limnological variables (lake level, water temperature, euphotic depth, mixing depth, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds and phytoplankton biomass) for a gravel-pit, seepage lake close to …
Rainfall statistics changes in Sicily
2013
Abstract. Changes in rainfall characteristics are one of the most relevant signs of current climate alterations. Many studies have demonstrated an increase in rainfall intensity and a reduction of frequency in several areas of the world, including Mediterranean areas. Rainfall characteristics may be crucial for vegetation patterns formation and evolution in Mediterranean ecosystems, with important implications, for example, in vegetation water stress or coexistence and competition dynamics. At the same time, characteristics of extreme rainfall events are fundamental for the estimation of flood peaks and quantiles which can be used in many hydrological applications, such as design of the mos…
