Writer, journalist and traveler Paolo Rumiz is one of the most important representatives of the Italian travel literature. His published works describe two trips to Ukraine in 1999 and 2008. In particular, this writer travels through the Ukrainian Carpathians. In his writings he uses the term Ruthenia, talks about the identity of the Ruthenians, writes about the peculiarities of the character of the local peoples. The aim of the present article is to present to the reader the works of an Italian expert on the Eastern European ethno-national context, to offer an Ukrainian translation and to describe the main characteristics of the works of this Italian writer.

The article presents the position of “the Castle” on emigration (the President, government and the Council of the Republic of Poland) towards the events in Poland and the Eastern Bloc in 1956. The politicians and publicists of “the Castle”, observing some changes in the country, did not expect that they would lead to basic changes. The opinion prevailed that Poland was not an independent state and that the Soviet occupation still persisted. Propagating maximum demands (independence, restoration of the pre-war border in the east), they did not have much hope in an evolutionary course of changes. Significant uncertainties persist in the reconstruction of past sea surface temperatures in the eastern equatorial Pacific, especially regarding the amplitude of the glacial cooling and the details of the post-glacial warming. Here we present the first regional calibration of alkenone unsaturation in surface sediments versus mean annual sea surface temperatures (maSST). Based on 81 new and 48 previously published data points, it is shown that open ocean samples conform to established global regressions of Uk'37 versus maSST and that there is no systematic bias from seasonality in the production or export of alkenones, or from surface ocean nutrient concentrations or salinity. This paper analyzes the use of the preposition in that in Ukrainian and Russian can assume the form v or na. In the 20th century the use of both prepositions has assumed political meanings which has diversified the semantics of the expressions na Ukraine and v Ukraine (in Ukraine) and correlates. We aim to show the evolution of meaning of these prepositions, to explain the use of them in Ukrainian and Russian publicist and diplomatic texts, to demonstrate how scholars and publicists motivate the use of v and na and to highlight correlate problems.

The aim of the paper is to determine which cultural trends formed in the said period, which factors influenced the formation and development of these trends, how relations between these trends were and what national and cultural heritage they left.
La questione identitaria nella stampa dei rusyny della Jugoslavia nel periodo interbellico

This article analyses the role of the press in the development of the identity of the Rusyns from Baþka and Sirmium in the interwar period. The main data on the history and studies carried out on the community in the examined period are presented. The main part analyses the editorial policies of the «Ruski novini» edition, published by the Greek-Catholic intelligentsia of Pro-Ukrainian orientation, and «Zarja», which had Panslavic, pro-Moscow and pro-Orthodox positions.

In this publication is presented the correspondence between Ukrainian Academic Oleksa Myshnych and Štefan Hudak, a writer and journalist and from community of Rusyns of Bačka and Sirmium (Vojvodina, Serbia). Published documents allow to analyze the cultural and national identity of Š. Hudak and to know more about the cultural life of Rusyns in former Yugoslavia.
