Effects of message appeal and service type in CSR communication strategies

2015

Abstract Studies highlight the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for companies' stakeholders. Consumers, however, are often unaware of such initiatives. Understanding how to effectively communicate socially responsible initiatives is an important challenge for both researchers and managers, who invest considerable resources in CSR initiatives. This study examines consumers' responses to two types of CSR initiatives (environment-related and employee-based) using two types of message appeals (emotional and rational) across two service types (hedonic and utilitarian). Responses provide data on consumers' awareness of CSR initiatives, attitudes toward the company, perceived co…

2018

Electrodialysis with asymmetrically profiled membranes: Influence of profiles geometry on desalination performance and limiting current phenomena

2021

Abstract Electrodialysis (ED) has recently gained much attention in the wide field of desalination and water treatment. However, energy consumption and capital costs may impair the process competitiveness. In this regard, limiting current density (LCD) and current efficiency (η) are key performance parameters for optimized ED systems. In this work, an experimental campaign was carried out characterizing the performance of ED stacks when adopting asymmetrically profiled membranes. Current–voltage curves were recorded under different operating conditions mimicking the operation of brackish water or seawater desalination units. Results showed that there was a preferable direction of the electr…

Does Promoting Homeownership Always Damage Labour Market Performances?

2018

In this paper we analyse the link between homeownership and various aggregate and individual labour market outcomes. Our aim is to investigate the likely consequences of public policies that promote homeownership. To this end, we develop a circular firm-worker matching model with Nash-bargained wage setting and free market entry. Homeowners are assumed to be less mobile than tenants and to bear higher mobility costs. Our numerical exercises show that tenants usually have lower unemployment rates and lower wage rates than homeowners. Importantly, workersʼ performances do not necessarily improve following an increase in the proportion of homeowners. The latter crucially depends on the relativ…

An Investigation into the Stability of Graphitic C 3 N 4 as a Photocatalyst for CO 2 Reduction

2018

The increasing CO 2 concentration in the atmosphere exerts a significant influence on global warming and climate change. The capture and utilization of CO 2 by conversion to useful products is an area of active research. In this work, the photodriven reduction of CO 2 was investigated using graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) as a potential photocatalyst. The photocatalytic reduction of CO 2 was investigated with g-C 3 N 4 powder immobilized on a glass support in a batch gas-phase photoreactor. The experiments were carried out under UV-vis irradiation at 70 °C and an initial pressure of 2.5 bar. The only gas-phase product detected during the irradiation of the g-C 3 N 4 in the presence of…

Effect of Chitin Whiskers on the Molecular Dynamics of Carrageenan-Based Nanocomposites

2019

[EN] Films of carrageenan (KC) and glycerol (g) with different contents of chitin nanowhiskers (CHW) were prepared by a solution casting process. The molecular dynamics of pure carrageenan (KC), carrageenan/glycerol (KCg) and KCg with different quantities of CHWs as a filler was studied using dielectric relaxation spectroscopy. The analysis of the CHW effect on the molecular mobility at the glass transition, T-g, indicates that non-attractive intermolecular interactions between KCg and CHW occur. The fragility index increased upon CHW incorporation, due to a reduction in the polymer chains mobility produced by the CHW confinement of the KCg network. The apparent activation energy associated…

CO2 reduction by C3N4-TiO2 Nafion photocatalytic membrane reactor as a promising environmental pathway to solar fuels

2019

Abstract We investigated CO2 photocatalytic reduction coupling, for the first time in literature, the assets offered by the continuous operating mode using C3N4-TiO2 photo-catalyst embedded in a dense Nafion matrix. The reactor performance was analyzed under UV–vis light in terms of productivity, selectivity and converted carbon. Reaction pressure was specifically investigated for its effect as a “driver” in determining reactor performance, modulating products removal from the reaction volume. In addition, the membrane reactor performance was explored as a function of H2O/CO2 feed molar ratio and contact time. The higher feed pressure (5 bar) led to a lesser MeOH production and a greater am…

Dynamic Coalitional TU Games: Distributed Bargaining among Players' Neighbors

2013

We consider a sequence of transferable utility (TU) games where, at each time, the characteristic function is a random vector with realizations restricted to some set of values. The game differs from other ones in the literature on dynamic, stochastic or interval valued TU games as it combines dynamics of the game with an allocation protocol for the players that dynamically interact with each other. The protocol is an iterative and decentralized algorithm that offers a paradigmatic mathematical description of negotiation and bargaining processes. The first part of the paper contributes to the definition of a robust (coalitional) TU game and the development of a distributed bargaining protoc…

Continuous-time portfolio optimization under terminal wealth constraints

1995

Typically portfolio analysis is based on the expected utility or the mean-variance approach. Although the expected utility approach is the more general one, practitioners still appreciate the mean-variance approach. We give a common framework including both types of selection criteria as special cases by considering portfolio problems with terminal wealth constraints. Moreover, we propose a solution method for such constrained problems.

Optimal control of option portfolios and applications

1999

We present an expected utility maximisation framework for optimally controlling a portfolio of options. By combining the replication approach to option pricing with ideas of the martingale approach to (stock) portfolio optimisation we arrive at an explicit solution of the option portfolio problem. Its characteristics are illustrated by some specific examples. As an application, we calculate an optimal option and consumption strategy for an investor who is obliged to hold a stock position until the time horizon.
