Una nuova prospettiva sulle città australiane nell’esposizione NOW and WHEN Australian Urbanism alla Biennale di Venezia del 2010. La mostra è stata strutturata in due sezioni. Nella prima sono state messe in risalto le più interessanti regioni urbane e non urbane dell’Australia cosi come esse appaiono “ora” (NOW) ritratte da John Gollings. Nella seconda sala, 17 ambienti urbani del futuro hanno proposto immagini di “quando” (WHEN), avremo raggiunto e superato il 2050. Given the significance of planning public argumentation, that is ‘reasoning in public’, in ways in which it is possible to recognize the diversity of perspectives and the complexity of many issues faced, this paper faces the question of how to deal with this issue in political and social contexts where the notion of (substantial) democracy faces several obstacles in its way. La questione abitativa oggi ha assunto un ruolo di notevole importanza nei processi decisionali di trasformazione urbana; nonostante la drammaticità del tema, rimane un compito molto arduo individuare una coerenza strutturale in merito alla storia delle politiche di edilizia residenziale pubblica. L’auto-recupero, l’auto-costruzione, l’alloggio condiviso sono alcune delle forme più interessanti fra le politiche e le strategie dell’alloggio sociale, poiché rappresentano delle risposte specifiche e concrete al bisogno di abitazione a buon mercato e costituiscono un valido strumento nei processi di governance territoriale.

Aylesbury Estate (2020) è un lungometraggio documentario sul noto complesso abitativo di social housing londinese, nel quale ho abitato per alcuni anni. Il film, da me diretto tra il 2017 e il 2020, segue il percorso esistenziale ed emotivo di alcuni residenti dell’Aylesbury mentre si fa strada il lungo processo di demolizione dello stesso. Nel ripercorrere il processo di realizzazione del film e attraverso l’analisi di alcune sequenze del film finito, questo articolo propone uno ‘sguardo di ascolto’ per condurre ricerca sul campo attraverso il mezzo filmico.

In recent years, the proliferation of tourists in the urban environment has generated several issues in the functioning of cities. As urban tourism has historically been linked to cultural and architectural attractions, this increased tourism pressure has involved and often compromised the common heritage uses.
