Role of abdominal obesity for functional outcomes and complications in men treated with radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer: results of the Mul…

2014

Objective. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of abdominal obesity on preoperative features, complications and functional outcomes of men treated with radical prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer. Material and methods. In 2006 a multicentre Italian report on RP evaluated the surgical and functional characteristics of prostate cancer and RP outcomes. Age and waist circumference (WC) were recorded. Abdominal obesity was defined as a WC of at least 102 cm. International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) score, prostate-specific antigen, prostate volume, tumour characteristics, presence/absence of perioperative complications and the number of blood units transfused were recorded. Preoper…

Assessment of the Elastographic and Electromyographic of Pelvic Floor Muscles in Postmenopausal Women with Stress Urinary Incontinence Symptoms

2021

Background. Shear wave elastography is an effective method for studying the condition of various musculoskeletal soft tissues. The primary aim of this study was the objective elastographic and electromyographic assessment of the pelvic floor during the rest and contraction of the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) in postmenopausal women. Methods. This was a prospective observational study that was carried out at the University Hospital in Wroclaw, Poland, between January 2017 and December 2019. Patients. The target group of the study included postmenopausal women with stress urinary incontinence. The primary outcomes were the features of the elastographic assessment of the pelvic floor during rest…

Urinary incontinence and quality of life: a systematic review and meta-analysis

2021

AbstractBackgroundUrinary incontinence (UI) and low quality of life (QoL) are two common conditions. Some recent literature proposed that these two entities can be associated. However, no attempt was made to collate this literature. Therefore, the aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing data to estimate the strength of the association between UI and QoL.MethodsAn electronic search of major databases up to 18th April 2020 was carried out. Meta-analysis of cross-sectional and case–control studies comparing mean values in QoL between patients with UI and controls was performed, reporting random-effects standardized mean differences (SMDs) ± 95% confid…

Guías EAU sobre incontinencia urinaria

2011

Management of urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women: An EMAS clinical guide.

2020

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of urinary incontinence and of other lower urinary tract symptoms increases after the menopause and affects between 38 % and 55 % of women aged over 60 years. While urinary incontinence has a profound impact on quality of life, few affected women seek care. AIM: The aim of this clinical guide is to provide an evidence-based approach to the management of urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature review and consensus of expert opinion. SUMMARY RECOMMENDATIONS: Healthcare professionals should consider urinary incontinence a clinical priority and develop appropriate diagnostic skills. They should be able to identify and manage a…

Laparoscopic retropubic colposuspension for the treatment of genuine stress incontinence. long term follow up

2003

Objectives: The minimal surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence with endoscopic operation has four basic advantages compared with traditional open procedures: decreased blood loss due to better visualization of the space of Retzius, decreased postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization and faster recovery. Comparative studies have shown a higher subjective and objective cure rate for the retropubic urethropexy(Burch procedure) than for the anterior colporraphy or endoscopic needle urethropexy(1). The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety, the efficacy and morbility of laparoscopic Burch procedure for the surgical treatment of genuine stress incontinence. Methods: We reviewed…

Current management of pelvic organ prolapse in aging women : EMAS clinical guide

2018

Management of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common and challenging task. Nowadays older women are more active than they were in the past, and the development of POP disrupts quality of life and impairs social and personal activities. The menopausal transition is a time of vulnerability, during which many women start experiencing symptoms and signs of POP. The role of hormonal changes or of hormonal therapies in influencing the development or progression of POP has been explored extensively. The management of POP requires considerable clinical skills. Correct diagnosis and characterization of the prolapse and an identification of the individual woman's most bothersome symptoms are the hal…

Diagnostic laparoscopy in a Gartner's duct cyst

2008

Gartner's duct cysts associated with renal dysgenesis are rare malformations and represent a diagnostic challenge. We report on one such case in which final diagnosis was achieved by laparoscopy and discuss the possible role of minimally invasive surgery in the management of this condition.

Add-On Effect of Postural Instructions to Abdominopelvic Exercise on Urinary Symptoms and Quality of Life in Climacteric Women with Stress Urinary In…

2021

The aim of this study was to investigate the add-on effect of postural instructions to an abdominopelvic exercise program on incontinence urinary symptoms (UI symptoms) and quality of life (QoL) in climacteric women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). A randomized controlled trial was performed with a total of 40 climacteric women with SUI aged between 46 and 75 years old. Participants were randomly assigned to two groups: a group performing an abdominopelvic exercise program (AEP) (n = 20) and a group performing abdominopelvic exercise with the addition of postural instructions (AEPPI) (n = 20). Primary outcome measures were UI symptoms, UI impact and QoL related to UI (UI-QoL), measur…

Remeex® System Effectiveness in Male Patients with Stress Urinary Incontinence

2021

Background: When conservative management fails, patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are considered for surgical treatment. Simpler, more economical and less invasive surgical techniques, such as the Remeex® system, have been developed. Objectives: To analyze the objective effectiveness of the Remeex® system in the treatment of male stress urinary incontinence. To study survival and complication rates of the Remeex® system in male SUI patients. Materials and methods: Prospective observational study between July 2015 and May 2020. Group A (n = 7
