Measuring patient experiences in Fabry disease: validation of the Fabry-specific Pediatric Health and Pain Questionnaire (FPHPQ)
2012
Abstract Introduction Common symptoms for children with Anderson-Fabry Disease (FD) such as acroparaesthesia and gastrointestinal manifestations can only be objectively assessed in patients using a valid instrument. To date, no such instrument exists. Methods A preliminary 40-item measure of symptoms and experience with FD, the Fabry-specific Paediatric Health and Pain Questionnaire (FPHPQ) was developed, but lacked a formal assessment of its measurement properties. The FPHPQ was used in the Fabry Outcome Survey (FOS), a registry for all patients with a confirmed diagnosis of FD who are receiving agalsidase alfa, or are treatment naïve and who are managed by physicians participating in FOS.…
Phenotypic variability and disparities in treatment and outcomes of childhood arthritis throughout the world: an observational cohort study
2019
Made available in DSpace on 2019-10-05T16:54:20Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-04-01 IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini Background To our knowledge, the characteristics and burden of childhood arthritis have never been studied on a worldwide basis. We aimed to investigate, with a cross-sectional study, the prevalence of disease categories, treatment methods, and disease status in patients from across different geographical areas and from countries with diverse wealth status. Methods In this multinational, cross-sectional, observational cohort study, we asked international paediatric rheumatologists from specialised centres to enrol children with a diagnosis of juvenile …
Formulation and validation of a reduced order model of 2D materials exhibiting a two-phase microstructure as applied to graphene oxide
2018
Abstract Novel 2D materials, e.g., graphene oxide (GO), are attractive building blocks in the design of advanced materials due to their reactive chemistry, which can enhance interfacial interactions while providing good in-plane mechanical properties. Recent studies have hypothesized that the randomly distributed two-phase microstructure of GO, which arises due to its oxidized chemistry, leads to differences in nano- vs meso‑scale mechanical responses. However, this effect has not been carefully studied using molecular dynamics due to computational limitations. Herein, a continuum mechanics model, formulated based on density functional based tight binding (DFTB) constitutive results for GO …
Elastoplastic Damaging Model for Adhesive Anchor Systems. II: Numerical and Experimental Validation
2011
This paper presents the numerical and experimental validation of the analytical elastoplastic damaging model proposed in the companion paper (Part I). The validation was carried out by describing the pullout failure of epoxy adhesive anchors. Pullout tests were simulated numerically and performed experimentally. Several specimens made of a rebar embedded in a hardened concrete cylinder by means of polyester resin were tested. Conventional strain gauges and acoustic emission (AE) sensors were used to evaluate the structural response of the system and to monitor the onset and progression of structural damage, respectively. The parametric analysis and the moment tensor analysis of the AE data …
Variable magnification digital in-line holographic microscopy
2019
We present a new layout providing different magnifications and resolution capabilities in lensless imaging by using an electrically tunable lens (ETL). Experimental validation is reported using a resolution test target and prostate cancer cells.
Experimental validation of a fractional model for creep/recovery testing of asphalt mixtures
2012
Abstract Prediction of asphalt mixtures’ behavior during their service life is a challenge due to its complexity and sensitivity to environmental and loading conditions. It has been proved that, when subjected to loading conditions comparable with most pavement operating conditions, asphalt mixtures behave as linear visco-elastic (LVE) materials. Traditionally the LVE behavior of bituminous material is modeled via creep/recovery functions. In the past, several rheological models constituted by elastic and viscous elements arranged in series or in parallel (analogical models) have been proposed and specified for both bitumen and asphalt mixtures. The corresponding constitutive laws always in…
Generalized Multitarget Linear Regression with Output Dependence Estimation
2019
Multitarget regression has recently received attention in the context of modern, large-scale problems in which finding good enough solutions in a timely manner is crucial. Different proposed alternatives use a combination of regularizers that lead to different ways of solving the problem. In this work, we introduce a general formulation with several regularizers. This leads to a biconvex minimization problem and we use an alternating procedure with accelerated proximal gradient steps to solve it. We show that our formulation is equivalent but more efficient than some previously proposed approaches. Moreover, we introduce two new variants. The experimental validation carried out, suggests th…
Pengembangan Model PBL Terintegrasi Kognitif Moral Pada Mahasiswa PGSD UNIPA Surabaya
2021
The research aims to produce learning tools for Moral Cognitive Integrated PBL Learning Model, knowing the level of moral cognitive of PGSD Unipa Surabaya students and the influence of Moral Cognitive Integrated PBL Learning Model on Moral Cognitive of PGSD Unipa Surabaya Students. This type of research is R&D development research that has been simplified into three stages, namely preliminary studies, model development and model validation. The study population was all students of PGSD Class 2020 which consisted of seven classes, namely classes A-F. Whereas the sample of this study were students of PGSD Class 2020 Class A and Class F. The results of the study were the validation results…
Validación y verificación analítica de los métodos microbiológicos
2015
Clinical microbiologists should ensure, to the maximum level allowed by the scientific and technical development, the reliability of the results. This implies that, in addition to meeting the technical criteria to ensure their validity, they must be performed with a number of conditions that allows comparable results to be obtained, regardless of the laboratory that performs the test. In this sense, the use of recognized and accepted reference methodsis the most effective tool for these guarantees. The activities related to verification and validation of analytical methods has become very important, as there is continuous development, as well as updating techniques and increasingly complex …
Adaptation of the Human Gut Microbiota Metabolic Network During the First Year After Birth
2019
Predicting the metabolic behavior of the human gut microbiota in different contexts is one of the most promising areas of constraint-based modeling. Recently, we presented a supra-organismal approach to build context-specific metabolic networks of bacterial communities using functional and taxonomic assignments of meta-omics data. In this work, this algorithm is applied to elucidate the metabolic changes induced over the first year after birth in the gut microbiota of a cohort of Spanish infants. We used metagenomics data of fecal samples and nutritional data of 13 infants at five time points. The resulting networks for each time point were analyzed, finding significant alterations once sol…
