The quality of Valle del Belice sheep’s milk and cheese produced in the hot summer season in Sicily

2013

In response to the growing consumer demand for fresh cheese in summer, this investigation was aimed to evaluate the chemical and microbiological characteristics of sheep’s milk and cheese produced in Sicily in the hot summer months. A total of 810 bulk milk samples collected from 17 farms rearing ewes of the Valle del Belice breed were analysed for chemical composition, somatic cell count, total bacterial count and clotting parameters. Samples (n = 18) of Protected Designation of Origin Vastedda della valle del Belice cheese produced in six dairies were collected in summer, autumn and spring and analysed for chemical composition, microbiological profile and fatty acid (FA) composition. Effect of Mycoplasma agalactiae mastitis on milk production and composition in Valle dell Belice dairy sheep

2019

Contagious agalactia (CA), a disease caused by Mycoplasma agalactiae and other pathogenic mycoplasmas, is a well-known multietiological syndrome affecting dairy breeds of sheep and goats in the Mediterranean basin. The aim of this work was to study the effect on milk production and composition of mastitis caused by M. agalactiae in Valle del Belice dairy sheep. All ewes were manually milked twice daily and the milk from both daily milking was analysed for milk composition and somatic cell counts. Moreover the morning milk samples were collected aseptically from each animal for bacteriological analyses. A mixed linear model was utilised to consider milk production and composition between ani…

2019

The main challenge that Law will have to face in the near future is the defense of human being against the uncontrolled power of technology in different spheres: ecology versus the becoming of a new geological age: the Anthropocene; the finances, versus speculation and taxes fraud; biolaw, versus the transhumanist challenge; the rights to privacy and no manipulation versus GAF( Google, Amazon, Facebook).

Aquatic biodiversity and saline lakes: Lake Bogoria National Reserve, Kenya

2003

Lake Bogoria, in the Rift Valley of Kenya is an extreme saline lake (conductivity 40–80 mS cm-1, alkalinity 1500 m equ 1-1). It is hydrologically more stable than the other, endorheic lakes in Kenya, because it is deep — maximum depth at present just over 10 m in an area of 3000 ha — and so does not have periods when it is dry. It is ecologically simple, with only one species dominating the phytoplankton — the cyanobacterium ‘spirulina’, Arthrospira fusiformis. Its biomass and productivity were very high — biomass between 38 and 365 μg 1-1 chlorophyll ‘a’ and 3.4–21 x 103 coils ml-1 and net production between 0.24 and 1 gm C m3 h, the latter in a narrow zone of less than a metre. There were…

In ogni interve…

2017

The underwater archaeological campaigns carried out over twenty years, from 1970 to 1990, in the Saône valley, more particularly in the area of Chalon-sur-Saône, first by Louis Bonnamour and then by Annie Dumont, generated a considerable quantity of data concerning settlements, located on fjords or river banks. This documentation, stored at the Musée Denon in Chalon-sur-Saône, was the subject of new studies, initiated by Jean-Michel Treffort for the Ouroux-sur-Saône “Marnay” site and continued by Franck Ducreux, notably for the Chalon-sur-Saône “le gué des Piles” site. On this occasion most of the sites of the region having yielded protohistoric assemblages were reconsidered. This article p…

Physical or cultural frontier: a question of method. The example of the Imera-Salso sicilian valley

2009

Facing the study of the frontier on the basis of archaeological evidence presupposes the construction of a rigorous methodological grid which acts as an interpretative filter of the evidence to be analysed. From the 1970s to the present, frontier studies have undergone a notable increase. The debate on the subject has expanded, directing research on several levels. This contribution proposes a model of analysis of the numismatic and archaeological documentation aimed at studying the frontier of the Imera-Salso valley in Sicily

A cross-cultural study using Napping (R): Do Korean and French consumers perceive various green tea products differently?

2013

http://www.elsevier.com/locate/foodres ; WOS:000323239400065; International audience; With the increasing demands of global trading, interests in cross-cultural comparisons have increased to gain understanding in the differences of sensory perception and consumer acceptability. The objective of this study was to compare the differences in perception by Korean and French consumers of green tea produced in Korea, China, and Japan, using Napping (R) followed by ultra flash profile. In addition, overall acceptability was examined in both countries. The results of Napping (R) showed that the Korean consumers were able to discriminate the green teas according to their origins and processing metho…
