3D structural modeling and restoration in fold-and-thrust belts: examples from the Kumeta and Busambra Mts., NW Sicily (Italy)

2018

The Sicilian Fold and Thrust belt (SFTB) is a structurally complex area where along-strike variations of structural styles, shortening amounts, exhumation rates and amounts of syn-tectonic sedimentation frequently occur. Moreover strong differential clockwise rotations around vertical axes affected the different tectonic units during their emplacement. This complexity, coupled with debatable or incomplete subsurface dataset (e.g., available 2D onshore seismic lines) allowed previous authors to propose different interpretations for the tectonic evolution of the SFTB since Cenozoic time. The study area, located in the Western sector of the SFTB comprises the Kumeta and Busambra ridges (derive…

First performed in the Basilica of St. Mark on 13th September 1956, Stravinky’s Choral Variations on the Christmas Carol “Vom Himmel hoch...” (1955-56) are an original and creative reinvention of the Canon…

Place Identity e marcatezza diatopica nella canzone dialettale siciliana

2015

Pot…

La canzone popolare italiana fra implicazioni diastratiche e riusi colti

2015

This paper studies the linguistic variability in Italian music songs from a sociola point of view, a new research approach with only few studis in the current bibliography. The social factors of linguistic variation will be called into question to discuss the meaning of "folk song", a rather complex notion. First of all, we shall remark that many recent studies on songs use the term 'opular' with a quite different meaning rather than the meaning used in Italian linguistics. The variationist approach allows us to define the meaning of "folk song", because it shoes the close relationship between linguistic features and the social world represented in folk songs. In this perspective, we shall …

Speaker variables and their relation to language change

2018

The aim of this chapter is to discuss the relationship between variation processes and linguistic change and the speaker variables identified by Romance sociolinguistic studies. In particular, Romance sociolinguistics focuses on three different points of view: the socio-biographical characteristics of the speaker; the varieties related to social differences, and the relation between social groups and linguistic repertoire. In our work, we will study the socio-biographical characteristics, that Anglo-American linguistics defines as “speaker variables”, analyzing those variables more closely related in Romance studies to the diastratic vari-ation (age, sex/gender, social class). In certain ca…

Problems with variation in teaching/learning Geometry: an example of Chinese Cultural Transposition

2022

This paper discusses some theoretical/methodological observation and some qualitative results coming from a Cultural Transposition experience, implemented in the Italian school context (grade 8), according to the methodology of variation, as one of the most significant problem solving approach in Chinese schools. The framework of the Cultural Transposition and the methodology of variation are presented as an important condition for “decentralizing” the didactic practice from a specific social and cultural context. We argue that looking at different teaching/learning mathematics strategies coming from East-Asia cultures can favor some cultural contaminations at school and allow students to a…

AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF CULTURAL TRANSPOSITION IN PRIMARY SCHOOL: PROBLEMS WITH VARIATION

2016

Since several years, politicians, researchers and educators from different countries are debating on possible reasons for the success of Confucian area students in interactional assessment projects (such as PISA). Starting from the study of teaching practices developed in this East area, in Italy we developed an educational research based on the process of cultural transposition (Mellone & Ramploud, 2015). With this term we mean the process of change that develops considering two or more cultural-educational backgrounds with the aim to maintain their differences without “translating” them from one culture to another, but rather highlighting these in order to review their meaning process…

An Henstock-Kurzweil type integral on a meausure metric space

2014

We consider an Henstock-Kurzweil type integral defined on a complete measure metric space $X=(X, d)$ endowed with a Radon measure $\mu$ and with a family $\F$ of ``intervals" that satisfies, besides usual conditions, the Vitali covering theorem. In particular, for such integral, we obtain extensions of the descriptive characterization of the classical Henstock-Kurzweil integral on the real line, in terms of $ACG_*$ functions and in terms of variational measures. Moreover we show that, besides the usual Henstock-Kurzweil integral on the real line, such integral includes also the dyadic Henstock-Kurzweil integral, the $GP$-integral and the $s$-HK integral. For this last integral we prove a be…

Existence of two positive solutions for anisotropic nonlinear elliptic equations

2021

This paper deals with the existence of nontrivial solutions for a class of nonlinear elliptic equations driven by an anisotropic Laplacian operator. In particular, the existence of two nontrivial solutions is obtained, adapting a two critical point results to a suitable functional framework that involves the anisotropic Sobolev spaces.
