The nutritional value of milk can be negatively affected by thermal treatments. The quality of the proteins can be modified as a consequence of a set of reactions, the most important of which are the interactions between protein and carbohydrates, also known as Maillard reactions. These reactions can also occur when the storage conditions of moisture and temperature are unfavorable. The differ ent thermal treatments involved in processing milk (pasteurization, sterilization, drying, etc.) lead to different steps of the Maillard reaction and therefore to the formation of different compounds that can be useful as chemical markers of milk alteration, or more exactly of protein alteration. The role of oils in herbicide treatments is reviewed, both in terms of their own intrinsic activity and of their enhancement of the performance of other herbicides. The phytotoxicity of oils can be related to their physical properties. Their efficacy as adjuvants can vary with the plant /pesticide combination involved, and differences may also be observed between oils of mineral and vegetable origin. The possible mechanisms involved in the enhancement of activity by oils are discussed and areas of work that might elucidate these further are indicated

ABSTRACT Seasonal variations in biochemical composition of the clam Dosinia corrugate were investigated from August 2013 until July 2014 in Zhuanghe Bay in relation to environmental conditions and reproductive cycle. Separate biochemical analyses of the mantle, adductor muscle, foot, and gonad-visceral mass in each sex were undertaken. Spawning took place once a year from July to August and the massive spawning occurred in August with the highest water temperature and chlorophyll a levels. The potential of stirring assisted dead-end ultrafiltration (UF) to recover polyphenols from purple sweet potato (PSP) juices was evaluated. For this purpose, the effects of rotation speed (200–600 rpm), transmembrane pressure (TMP) (0.2–0.4 MPa), and membrane molecular weight cut-off (30–100 kDa) were investigated with a lab-scale filtration module. The results showed that the highest protein removal (86%) and polyphenol selectivity (12.2) were both obtained under higher rotation speed (600 rpm).
