The Role of Mental Rigidity and Alcohol Consumption Interaction on Intimate Partner Violence: A Spanish Study

ABSTRACTIntimate partner violence (IPV) has often been linked to alcohol consumption. Alcohol abuse affects cognitive processing through its effects on the prefrontal cortex, generating influence in mental rigidity (MR). This study analyzes the influence of MR as a predisposing factor to violence. The sample consisted of 136 men with a history of IPV. Participants with high MR had lower empathy and perception of the severity of IPV, and higher alcohol consumption and hostile sexism than participants with lower MR. These results should be considered in the development of prevention and intervention programs with the goal of increasing their effectiveness.

The study examined (1) what dimensions of parenting would emerge from retrospective reports of parental behaviour, and (2) whether childhood family violence and parental problems are associated with later perceptions of parenting among 89 young male Finnish inmates. The inmates completed the Parent Behaviour Inventory (PBI) and the Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS). Data on childhood family violence and parental problems were obtained from two files. The PBI yielded three factors and the CTS two factors for both mothers and fathers. Diplomdarbs „Sociālpedagoģiskā darbība izstumšanas mobinga mazināšanā vispārizglītojošās skolas 4.-6. klasēs” izstrādāts ar mērķi raksturot sociālpedagoģisko darbību 4.-6. klašu skolēnu izstumšanas mobinga mazināšanā. Teorētiskajā daļā aprakstīta mobinga būtība, cēloņi un sekas, izstumšanas mobinga specifika, sociālpedagoģiskā darbība izstumšanas mobinga mazināšanā. Praktiskajā daļā veikts pētījums par izstumšanas mobinga sastopamību Rīgas „X“ vidusskolas 4.-6. klasēs. Tika izstrādāta sociālpedagoģiskā programma „Sociālpedagoģiskā darbība 4.-6. klašu skolēnu izstumšanas mobinga mazināšanā”. Veikta programmas aprobācija un tās rezultātu analīze.
Struggles for moral value and the reproduction of gendered and racialised hierarchies in online discussions of violence

The article examines online discussions in Finland that focus on violence committed by Finnish women, on one hand, and non-white migrant men, on the other. Drawing on the perspective of sociology of value, the article illustrates how these discussions function as sites of struggles over moral worth in a contemporary context characterised by crises of both male and white hegemony. The authors suggest that, through the discussions, these current crises are projected on migrant men and certain groups of women, who thereby become construed as morally reprehensible. Starting from a presentation of the phenomenon of intimate partner violence and of its various possible forms, this paper presents an overview of the most recent theoretical contributions on the topic, the dynamics of abuse in the couple and the main psychodynamic aspects that explain the possible manifestations and peculiarities of the effects of violence, both from the point of view of the abuser and the victim. This research examined gendered positioning in therapeutic conversations, especially in treatment of intimate partner violence (IPV). A feminist-informed reading combined with a discursive psychological approach was applied in three studies on positioning in therapeutic conversations. This reading focused on gendered positioning, gendered power and cultural discourses. El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar la relación existente entre la reputación social del adolescente -percibida e ideal-, y la violencia instrumental -manifiesta y relacional- en adolescentes desde una perspectiva de género. La muestra utilizada en este estudios fue de 1319 adolescentes -T1- de ambos sexos (53% chicas y 47% chicos) y de edades comprendidas entre los 11 y los 16 años (edad media 13.5; desviación típica 1.5), escolarizados en siete centros educativos de enseñanza secundaria y, de 554 estudiantes -T2- (54% chicas y 46% chicos).
