Hepatitis E Virus Detection in Liver Tissue from Patients with Suspected Drug-Induced Liver Injury

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is increasingly recognized as a cause of acute hepatitis in the industrialized world. We aimed to determine the frequency of acute Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in cases of suspected drug-induced liver injury (DILI), mainly a diagnosis of exclusion. To this aim, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) liver tissues of all cases routinely processed in our institute during a 2 ½ years period in which DILI was amongst the differential diagnoses (157 liver biopsies, one liver explant) were subjected to semi-nested RT-PCR for the detection of hepatitis E virus (HEV) RNA. SUMMARYEarly prediction of the final size of any epidemic and in particular for Zika disease outbreaks can be useful for health authorities in order to plan the response to the outbreak. The Richards model is often been used to estimate epidemiological parameters for arboviral diseases based on the reported cumulative cases in single- and multi-wave outbreaks. However, other non-linear models can also fit the data as well. Population density and childhood leukaemia: results of the EUROCLUS study

The EUROCLUS study assembled incidence data for 13,551 cases of childhood leukaemia (CL) diagnosed between 1980 and 1989 in 17 countries (or regions of countries). These were referenced by location at diagnosis to small census areas of which there were 25,723 in the study area. Population counts, surface area and, hence, population density were available for all these small areas. Abstract We investigated CD8 + T cell frequencies of five different Epstein–Barr virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte epitopes located within proteins of the replicative cycle and the latent state in healthy long-term virus carriers with IFN-γ enzyme-linked immunospot assay. Rapid development of Epstein-Barr virus-associated Hodgkin's disease after cessation of foscarnet therapy in an HIV-infected patient.

Epidemiological features suggest a link between Hodgkin's disease (HD) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection1. Indeed, EBV genome and expression of latent antigens can be found in Reed-Sternberg cells. In the majority of cases HD in HIV patients seems to be EBV-associated. We report on a 51-year-old HIV-infected patient in whom EBV-positive HD of mixed cellularity rapidly developed within one month after cessation of treatment with intravenous foscarnet.

The PGMY-PCR for human papillomavirus (HPV) was evaluated, in parallel with nested PCR (nPCR), in samples with noted Hybrid Capture II (HCII) and MY-PCR results. PGMY-PCR detected HPV DNA in 2.5% of HCII-negative-MY-PCR-negative samples and in 71.7% of HCII-positive-MY-PCR-negative samples; also, it detected the MY-PCR-negative-nPCR-negative types HPV-42, HPV-44, HPV-51, HPV-87, and HPV-89.
