Quasi-Fractional Models of Human Tendons Hereditariness
2018
In this study, the authors, after collecting a series of experimental evidences following a creep and relaxation tendon campaign, propose a non-linear model of the viscoelastic behavior of the tendons. The ligaments investigated are the patellars and the hamstrings. The analytical model proposed by the authors aims to explain the non-linear hereditary behavior of these tissues and proposes an approach with which to develop a hereditary fractional-order non-linear model.
A Navigation and Augmented Reality System for Visually Impaired People
2021
In recent years, we have assisted with an impressive advance in augmented reality systems and computer vision algorithms, based on image processing and artificial intelligence. Thanks to these technologies, mainstream smartphones are able to estimate their own motion in 3D space with high accuracy. In this paper, we exploit such technologies to support the autonomous mobility of people with visual disabilities, identifying pre-defined virtual paths and providing context information, reducing the distance between the digital and real worlds. In particular, we present ARIANNA+, an extension of ARIANNA, a system explicitly designed for visually impaired people for indoor and outdoor localizati…
Optical flow estimation from multichannel spherical image decomposition
2011
International audience; The problem of optical flow estimation is largely discussed in computer vision domain for perspective images. It was also proven that, in terms of optical flow analysis from these images, we have difficulty distinguishing between some motion fields obtained with little camera motion. The omnidirectional cameras provided images with large filed of view. These images contain global information about motion and allow to remove the ambiguity present in perspective case. Nevertheless, these images contain significant radial distortions that is necessary to take into account when treating these images to estimate the motion. In this paper, we shall describe new way to comp…

2020
Maurizio Sacripanti, one of the most significant figures in Italian architecture in the second half of the twentieth century, has experimented with his own architectural language making use of the influences of literature and contemporary art. In the Roman architect, in fact, different artistic experiences coexist, programmed art, megastructure and structuralism, optical-art, visionary architecture and kinetic art, these perhaps the most interesting ones. Other references can be found in the previous experiences of De Stijl and Futurism. The project for the competition for the Peugeot skyscraper in Buenos Aires seems to contain, in his conception and drawings, continuous references to all t…
Active lighting applied to three-dimensional reconstruction of specular metallic surfaces by polarization imaging
2006
International audience; In the field of industrial vision, the three-dimensional inspection of highly reflective metallic objects is still a delicate task. We deal with a new automated three-dimensional inspection system based on polarization analysis. We first present an extension of the shape-from-polarization method for dielectric surfaces to metallic surfaces. Then, we describe what we believe to be a new way of solving the ambiguity concerning the normal orientation with an active lighting system. Finally, applications to shape-defect detection are discussed, and the efficiency of the system to discriminate defects on specular metallic objects made by stamping and polishing is presente…
Combining hyperspectral UAV and multispectral Formosat-2 imagery for precision agriculture applications
2014
Remote sensing is a key tool for precision agriculture applications as it is capable of capturing spatial and temporal variations in crop status. However, satellites often have an inadequate spatial resolution for precision agriculture applications. High-resolution Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) imagery can be obtained at flexible dates, but operational costs may limit the collection frequency. The current study utilizes data fusion to create a dataset which benefits from the temporal resolution of Formosat-2 imagery and the spatial resolution of UAV imagery with the purpose of monitoring crop growth in a potato field. The correlation of the Weighted Difference Vegetation Index (WDVI) from …
Do teachers’ professional vision and teaching experience always go hand in hand? Examining knowledge-based reasoning of Finnish Grade 1 teachers
2021
This mixed-method study explored 54 Finnish Grade 1 teachers' professional vision and teaching experience. Teachers' retrospective think-aloud interviews, conducted while watching their eye-tracking recordings of classroom actions, were analysed according to the domains of knowledge-based reasoning. Negative associations between teaching experience and amount of knowledge-based reasoning were found. The qualitative examination of three teachers with different amounts of teaching experience provided concrete examples and broadened the findings. We suggest that teachers’ knowledge-based reasoning should be seen not only as an ability that increases with experience but also as an ability that …
