Association between vigor and exhaustion during the workweek: a person-centered approach to daily assessments.
2014
The purpose of this quantitative diary study was to investigate daily vigor and exhaustion using a person-centered approach. The study also investigated whether and how experiences of vigor and exhaustion relate to a state of being recovered. A total of 256 Finnish employees filled in a diary questionnaire during five consecutive workdays. Vigor and exhaustion showed strong negative interdependence within and between days. However, by applying a person-centered analysis, we were able to differentiate three groups with meaningful variation in vigor and exhaustion. The groups were labeled as Constantly vigorous (n = 179), Concurrently vigorous and exhausted (n = 30) and Constantly exhausted (…
Prefazione al romanzo di Jumoke Verissimo, Memoria e desiderio
2021
A well established and renowned poet residing in Canada, Jumoke Verissimo debuted with her first novel, A Small Silence, in 2019. The Preface to the Italian edition elucidates how in Verissimo's fictional account of a dissident intellectual released from prison after the end of Abacha's dictatorship, and in his friendship with a young woman studying at the local University, we find a portrait of today's Nigeria trying to survive its post-independence, post-colonial, post-dictatorship era.
Living autobiographically: Concepts of aging and artistic expression in painting and modern dance.
2016
This article discusses the ways in which artists have incorporated or failed to incorporate the aging process of their bodies into their art. Using Russian ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and the French painter Claude Monet as cases in point, we explore situations in which physical changes brought about by aging compromises artists' ability to engage with their artistic medium. Connecting Monet's oeuvre and Baryshnikov's dance performances to life writing accounts, we draw on John Paul Eakin's concept of "living autobiographically": In this vein, life writing research does not only have to take into account concepts of identity as they emerge from life writing narratives, but it also need…
Tell me a story and I will tell you who you are! Lens model analyses of personality and creative writing
2010
Abstract We elucidated the accuracy of personality judgments based on creative writing by means of lens model analyses. Targets ( N = 79) wrote short stories with five predefined words. Observers rated the Big Five dimensions and general knowledge of the targets who wrote these stories. Three main findings were revealed: (a) the Big Five and general knowledge were consensually judged by observers; (b) judgments of openness to experience, agreeableness, and general knowledge were accurate; and (c) accuracies were achieved due to the correct usage of valid cues. Additionally, we replicated all results in a second sample of targets ( N = 126). Results are discussed in comparison to other are…

Bernardine Evaristo’s The Emperor’s Babe: Re-Narrating Roman Britannia; De-Essentializing British National Identity
2014
The essay aims to demonstrate that, by representing the Black group as integral to British history, Bernardine Evaristo's The Emperor’s Babe imaginatively intervenes into the contemporary transmission of European history by unseating the conventional notion of racial purity on which the Western historical archive has been built. The novel thus questions hegemonic notions of Britishness and simultaneously re-inscribes them by offering new inclusive configurations of the British identity. Evaristo’s complex articulation of inter- and intra-gender power relations prevents the novel from developing the ethnic motif in simplistic celebratory terms and simultaneously enables the narrative to intr…
Identità nere e cultura europea. La narrativa di Bernardine Evaristo
2014
Informed by a theoretical-critical grid in which the main hermeneutical paradigms of Gender theories, British cultural studies and Post-colonial studies converge to intersect in an inextricable way with the theories of Black British feminism, Black British cultural studies and of “Critical Mixed Race Studies”, the monograph focuses on the interpretative analysis of the narrative production of Bernardine Evaristo, a London-born Anglo-Nigerian Booker-winner writer, who is now considered one of the most original voices in the contemporary British literary scene. On the basis of a complex theoretical-interpretative paradigm, within which the analytical categories of gender and "race" are concei…
Verso una dimensione narrativa delle mappe
2021
