Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Type 1 Diabetes

2016

Background: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) patient systems have been shown to improve diabetes self-treatment when used consistently. The meaningful integration of this technology into everyday life, however, can vary greatly among CGM users and not all people with diabetes use CGM to its full potential. To address this issue, the study pursued 2 aims: first, to identify patient characteristics that underlie the acceptance of CGM in people with type 1 diabetes and, second, to examine the effects of different levels of experience with CGM use. Methods: Guided by a model based on the technology acceptance model (TAM), structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to model the patient c…

The roles of the state and social licence to operate? Lessons from nuclear waste management in Finland, France, and Sweden

2019

The concept of social licence to operate (SLO) is an increasingly popular tool for companies to manage their relations with the local communities. SLO is very seldom used in the nuclear sector, which has nevertheless applied similar approaches, under notions such as partnership and participatory governance. This article explores the specific challenges that the application of SLO faces in the nuclear waste management (NWM) sector, by applying an often-used SLO framework of Boutilier and Thomson to illustrative case studies concerning nuclear waste repository projects in Finland, France and Sweden. Among the specificities of this sector, the article focuses on the central roles of the state …

Consumer Acceptance and Quality Parameters of the Commercial Olive Oils Manufactured with Cultivars Grown in Galicia (NW Spain)

2020

Mansa and Brava are olive autochthonous cultivars from Galicia, a new olive-growing zone from NW Spanish, from which high-quality extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs) are obtained. The oils obtained as by co-crushing Mansa and Brava olives in different proportions as by blending with others olives cultivars have different composition that influence in their sensory quality. The consumer acceptance of commercial oils elaborated with Local Galician cultivars was evaluated and a quality-mapping of olive oils was created. It was found that the both Local oils had good physical-chemical quality parameters. From sensory analysis viewpoint, Local-MB oils presented the highest intensity values for color…

Acceptance of Online Health Services for Self-Help in the Context of Mental Health : Understanding Young Adults Experiences

2018

This paper explores the understanding of the acceptance of online health services from a selfhelp perspective in the context of mental health. By examining the experiences of young adults, this paper develops a framework to leverage the current understanding of the factors that would support the acceptance and use of these types of services. To this end, a multidisciplinary perspective incorporating knowledge from the service marketing, health, and information systems literature is used. The results suggest that the production of online services that are meant for self-help purposes necessitates a focus on the acceptance of technology and, more importantly, instrumental value creation, as t…

Facilitators and barriers HPV unvaccinated girls after 5 years of program implementation

2014

Understanding perceptions and characteristics of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinated and non-vaccinated girls can inform communication activities and vaccine delivery strategies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate knowledge and factors associated with HPV unvaccinated girls after five years of vaccination program implementation in Sicily, an Italian region with low vaccination coverage (<50.0%). A cross-sectional study was conducted through a questionnaire designed to assess knowledge and vaccination status of girls of 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 birth cohorts. The sample consisted of 350 girls who attended three high schools. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted…

Drivers for human papillomavirus vaccination in Valencia (Spain)

2018

Objective: To describe the drivers associated with HPV vaccination in adolescent girls and their parent's opinion on the vaccine. Methods: We conducted an observational and cross-sectional study on adolescent girls and their parents in Valencia (Spain), between September 2011 and June 2012. A consultation was made at a random sample of schools of the 14-year-old girls that should have received the vaccine in the free vaccination programme. We ran a personal survey on knowledge and attitudes regarding HPV infection and the vaccine. A binary logistic regression model was performed to determine which factors were most associated with vaccination. Results: The survey was run on a binomial of 1,…

The perceived time value importance for enrolment in online masters courses: an extension of the Technology Acceptance Model

2020

Purpose. The main objective of this research is to obtain a better understanding of the impact of perceived time value on the intention of pursuing an online Master’s degree for its applicants. For this reason, perceived time value is added to the Technology Acceptance Model. Design/methodology/approach. Data are collected from a purposive sample of 147 individuals, who were interested to continue their higher education. Both, online and personal surveys are used to collect data. Achieved data are analysed by structural equation modelling. Findings. The results show that the perceived time value is significantly related to the ease of use and perceived utility, which in turn, show a signifi…

2017

The aim of this study is to contribute to a better understanding of challenges and factors which influence learning efficiency with electronic-portfolios. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM; Davis, Bagozzi, & Warshaw, 1989) we analyzed external variables (e.g., computer-anxiety) that influence technology acceptance and the actual system use in form of self-regulated learning. Additionally we included computer related attitudes and correlated them with external variables as well as measures of self-regulated learning. To foster learning efficacy with electronic portfolios the program Microsoft OneNote was used. A group of N = 32 preservice teachers worked on an electronic-port…
