Student employment in France: Hindrance rather than help for higher educational success?

International audience; In this study, we examine how student employment impacts higher educational trajectories in France. Focussing on undergraduates’ educational outcomes, we show the consequences of different intensities and levels of recurrence of student employment on perseverance in higher education. We use data from a nationally representative four-year longitudinal survey, descriptive analysis and logistic regression are performed to control for student characteristics. Our results suggest that student employment, especially when intensive and during periods of exams, increases exam failure. Influence of sociodemographic variables on anxiety and academic achievement in adolescence: the pluricultural context of Ceuta

Resumen Este trabajo tiene como objetivo fundamental analizar la ansiedad y el rendimiento académico, sus tipos y niveles en función de edad, género, cultura y estrato socioeconómico, así como contemplar las relaciones entre ambas. Se contó con 811 participantes. El 71.6% de la muestra eran musulmanes, mientras que el 28.4% eran cristianos; el 46.1% hombres y el 53.9% mujeres. This work focuses on the study of personal determinants of pupils' achievement and reactions toward class (well-being; satisfaction with teacher, learning and class). A theoretical model is tested by commonality analysis and refined by causal paths analysis. The results show that external and cognitive prior characteristics (age, gender, socio-occupational background, academic record) have direct effects on criteria variables, and indirectly via the attitudes toward school (negative feelings; scholastic interest; aspirations for future studies; "scholastic anxiety, worry and stress"; fun school).
