Prismatic adaptation modulates oscillatory EEG correlates of motor preparation but not visual attention in healthy participants
2018
Prismatic adaption (PA) has been proposed as a tool to induce neural plasticity and is used to help neglect rehabilitation. It leads to a recalibration of visuo-motor coordination during pointing as well as to after-effects on a number of sensorimotor and attention tasks, but whether these effects originate at a motor or attentional level remains a matter of debate. Our aim was to further characterise PA after-effects by using an approach that allows distinguishing between effects on attentional and motor processes. We recorded electroencephalography (EEG) in healthy human participants (9 females and 7 males) while performing a new double step, anticipatory attention/motor preparation parad…

Intercultural Profiles and Adaptation Among Immigrant and Autochthonous Adolescents
2015
Few studies examine relationships between intercultural strategies and adaptation among adolescents using a person-oriented approach. Framed from an intercultural psychology perspective, this study used such an approach in order to examine the influence of intercultural profiles, patterns of relationships among variables related to intercultural strategies, on the adaptation of adolescents of both non-dominant and dominant groups. Two hundred and fifty-six adolescents living in Italy and aged from 14 to 18 participated to the study: 127 immigrants from Tunisia (males = 49.61%) and 129 autochthonous (males = 44.19%). Data were collected through self-report questionnaires. Using cluster analy…

Climate Resilience Pathways of Rural Households. Evidence from Ethiopia
2018
This paper explores the resilience capacity of rural Ethiopian households after the drought shock occurred in 2011. The work develops an original empirical framework able to capture the policy and socio-economic determinants of households’ resilience capacity by making parametric statistical assumption on the resilience distribution. To this end, the analysis employs a two-wave representative panel dataset aligned with detailed weather records while controlling for a large set of household- and community-level characteristics. The analysis shows that the majority of these factors affects significantly resilience capacity only in the group of households affected by the drought shock, suggest…
Resilience between mitigation and adaptation
2020
The relation between architecture and time is the subject of two papers. The first illustrates the variations this relationship can make on the notion of resilience, applying it to architectural design and current experimentations of Design for Disassembly. The second focuses on the important subject of population ageing and on the need to study and develop forward-looking forms of a sustainable elderly-friendly living environment in Bulgaria, suggesting potential directions for future development in the context of a resilient society. Finally, the book includes an essay dealing with the importance of new digital technologies in the transition towards a resilient and sustainable city: the d…
Multilevel Governance for Climate Change Adaptation in Food Supply Chains
2019
The vulnerability of food supply chains to climate change is higher compared to other industries due to its dependency on climatic conditions, temperature and water supply. As a robust response to the vulnerability of food supply chains, it is essential to find ways of linking the concepts of sustainable development, climate change adaptation and risk governance into one paradigm. The risk governance of food supply chains is conducted by and across both private and public spheres. Hence, in this chapter, we introduce a dual system of governance to match the objectives of climate change adaptation, and discuss the multiplicity and potential integration of both corporate-led private governanc…
Analysis of runs of homozygosity of cattle living in different climate zones
2023
Abstract Aim of this study was to analyze the distribution and characteristics of runs of homozygosity in Bos taurus taurus and Bos taurus indicus breeds, as well as their crosses, farmed all around the world. With this aim in view, we used single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) genotypes for 3,263 cattle belonging to 204 different breeds. After quality control, 23,311 SNPs were retained for the analysis. Animals were divided into seven different groups: 1) continental taurus, 2) temperate taurus, 3) temperate indicus, 4) temperate composite, 5) tropical taurus, 6) tropical indicus, and 7) tropical composite. The climatic zones were created according to the latitude of the breeds’ country of…
Toward a stage theory of adaptive social media use : explaining change in facebook use
2018
Existing research on information technology (IT) use has shown that post- adoptive technology use is not a stable but a dynamic phenomenon in which users apply various adaptation behaviors. Users reshape the technology (IT adaptation), adjust their work routines (task adaptation), and change their own behavior (user adaptation) according to the changes induced by IT. Today, people use increasingly social media and other IT for personal purposes. Facebook (FB) is a good example of personal IT that people voluntarily use for years and has become an integral part of people’s everyday lives. Despite extensive research on IT use and IT/user adaptation, we know little about the dynamics of post-a…
