Expression of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1, CD54) in colonic epithelial cells.

The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54) was examined in 16 surgically removed colonic tumours and two colonic carcinoma cell lines. Immunohistochemistry showed a varying percentage of ICAM-1 positive colonic carcinoma cells in 9/16 tissue specimens, while normal colonic tissue (apart from a slight reactivity of endothelial cells) was not stained. The presence of the ICAM-1 molecule on the cell surface and the expression of ICAM-1 mRNA were investigated for two colonic carcinoma cell lines. Ameloblastoma is the most common odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin, and though it is of a benign nature, it frequently infiltrates the bone, has a high rate of recurrence and could potentially become malignant. Differential gene expression in p53-mediated G(1) arrest of human fibroblasts after gamma-irradiation or N-phosphoacetyl-L-aspartate treatment.

In human fibroblasts, N:-phosphoacetyl-L-aspartate (PALA) and gamma-radiation induce reversible and irreversible p53-mediated G(1) cell cycle arrest, respectively. By coupling the premature chromosome condensation technique to fluorescence in situ hybridization, we found no evidence of DNA damage after PALA treatment. We used representational difference analysis (cDNA-RDA) to study changes in gene expression after PALA treatment and gamma-radiation in normal human fibroblasts.
