Che cos'è l'estetica quotidiana

2017

Homology

2020

“Homology is probably the most important concept in comparative biology. It has been treated in different ways, however, and more than one concept of homology is probably defensible” (Minelli 1994: 18); “Homology is one of the terms most widely employed in biology. Together with species, gene and a few others, it is likely to occur in texts devoted to the most diverse biological disciplines, from MORPHOLOGY to systematics to molecular genetics.

QUALI FENOMENI PER L’ESTETICA EMPIRICA?

2020

Empirical Aesthetics profits from the research in Cognitive Neurosciences and the target article collects multiple evidence on the neurobiological basis of art and aesthetic experience in order to submit that psychological models give a new definition of the field of Psychology of Arts, if they integrate this empirical evidence with the perceptual, emotional and cognitive capacities, which are assumed to give rise to art and aesthetic experience. The opinion article raises questions about the variety of phenomena in the field, the common methodology to experimental research on cognition and aesthetics, the manifold perceptual attributes which support art and aesthetic cognition, the potenti…

Validity and reliability of measurements of the parameters of smile aesthetics: a comparison between digital and plaster models

2020

This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the TRIOS3 Color intraoral scanner (3Shape A/S, Copenhagen, Denmark) and its associated Ortho Analyzer™ software in measuring parameters of smile aesthetics compared with measurements on plaster casts. The study sample comprised plaster casts and digital models obtained from 30 subjects. Height (H), mesiodistal diameter (MDD) and connecting space (CS) of the anterior teeth were measured with a digital calliper on the plaster models and with the orthodontic software on the digital models. Validity was assessed using a 2-tailed paired t-test; the reliability of measurements for intra-examiner was evaluated with the Intra-class Correl…

Umwelt

2020

The term UMWELT spreads in the German language from the beginning of the nineteenth century, to indicate—both in a general relational and sociological sense, and in more specific reference to the peculiarities of PERCEPTION considered as an essential biological characteristic—the external world that surrounds and accompanies living organisms.

The origins of the aesthetic enjoyment of music - A review of the literature

2009

Listeners attribute a positive or negative value to music. This aesthetic experience is known to be observable over the individuals’ entire life span, from early childhood to old age, and in every culture. It is then often concluded that such an aesthetic experience constitutes part of the human nature, having an important biological foundation. This assumption leads to the question of how aesthetic experience of music originated in the biological evolution. In this paper, we will explore this question in the light of evolutionary psychology, cognitive science, and systems neuroscience. After reviewing the existing proposals, we conclude that the explanation of the origin of aesthetic expe…

Le paysage, entre esthétique & écologie : modélisation rétrospective à partir de changements d'occupation du sol

2016

Landscape is both a backdrop to the lives of human populations and a medium for the life cycle of animal species. Landscape changes induced by land-use and land-cover dynamics affect both these dimensions, the one aesthetic, and the other ecological. Because these rationales areusually studied within different disciplines, little research has been done into how the two clashor combine as and when landscape structures change. This work seeks therefore to model the spatial co-evolution of the aesthetic and ecological functions of landscape retrospectively usingspatial metrics based on land-cover data. It focuses on changes in the urban fringes of two French cities (Paris and Besançon) over th…

Relationship between perception of malocclusion and the psychological impact of dental aesthetics in university students.

2014

Introduction and Objectives: The objectives were to assess the relationship between perceived smile aesthetics and perceived psychological impact as measured by the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ), and their own perception of it using the Aesthetic Component of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN-AC) and a Visual Analog Scale (VAS); relate the IOTN-AC and VAS to the PIDAQ; and study the predictive capacity of the scales for psychological impact. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 447 college students in Spain and Portugal (average age 20.4 years, 33.1% men and 66.9% women). The online self-completed surveys used the recent…
