Engineering of sugar transporters for improvement of xylose utilization during high-temperature alcoholic fermentation in Ogataea polymorpha yeast

2020

Abstract Background Xylose transport is one of the bottlenecks in the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol. Xylose consumption by the wild-type strains of xylose-utilizing yeasts occurs once glucose is depleted resulting in a long fermentation process and overall slow and incomplete conversion of sugars liberated from lignocellulosic hydrolysates. Therefore, the engineering of endogenous transporters for the facilitation of glucose-xylose co-consumption is an important prerequisite for efficient ethanol production from lignocellulosic hydrolysates. Results In this study, several engineering approaches formerly used for the low-affinity glucose transporters in Saccharomyces cerev…

Highly enantioselective synthesis of fluorinated gamma-amino alcohols through proline-catalyzed cross-Mannich reaction.

2005

A new, simple route for the synthesis of fluorinated beta-alkyl gamma-amino alcohols in optically pure form in only two steps and featuring proline catalysis from inexpensive and readily available starting materials is described. The applied strategy allows for the introduction of diversity into both the beta-fluoroalkyl and alpha-alkyl groups of these compounds. [reaction: see text]

Darstellung einer homologen Reihe von oligoallylalkoholen mit 1-cyano-1-methylethyl-endgruppen. Beispiel einer mehrfachen matrizenreaktion und einer …

1984

Reduction and hydrolysis of the ladder oligomers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 prepared from the acrylates of oligo (hydroxyphenylene-methylene)s was found to lead to a homologous series of oligo (allylalcohol)s (6a, 7a, 8a, 9a and10a) with good yields. These alcohols were characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods. The reaction sequences, starting with the esterification of the oligo[(hydroxyphenylene) methylene]s 11a – 11e with acryloyl chloride followed by the formation of the ladder oligomers and ending with their reduction and hydrolysis into the oligo(allyl alcohol)s and the starting compounds 11a – 11e, represent a simple matrix reaction. A mixture of multiple acrylates was also subje…

Enzymes for the NADPH-dependent reduction of dihydroxyacetone and D-glyceraldehyde and L-glyceraldehyde in the mould Hypocrea jecorina

2006

The mould Hypocrea jecorina (Trichoderma reesei) has two genes coding for enzymes with high similarity to the NADP-dependent glycerol dehydrogenase. These genes, called gld1 and gld2, were cloned and expressed in a heterologous host. The encoded proteins were purified and their kinetic properties characterized. GLD1 catalyses the conversion of d-glyceraldehyde and l-glyceraldehyde to glycerol, whereas GLD2 catalyses the conversion of dihydroxyacetone to glycerol. Both enzymes are specific for NADPH as a cofactor. The properties of GLD2 are similar to those of the previously described NADP-dependent glycerol-2- dehydrogenases (EC 1.1.1.156) purified from different mould species. It is a reve…

2013

Liquid phase selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol over Pd–Ag catalysts supported on pumice

2001

Abstract Selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde was carried out over pumice supported bimetallic and monometallic Pd and Ag catalysts. Preliminary kinetic studies were performed at 333 K in autoclave, at pressure of 2 atm in pure oxygen. Under these conditions, small amounts of benzoic acid were detected with the monometallic Pd pumice being the most active catalyst. The reaction was also carried out under flowing oxygen at atmospheric pressure and at 348 K. Under these conditions, the selectivity to benzaldehyde was 100%. The catalytic activity of the catalysts was measured after different oxidation and reduction treatments at high temperature. In addition, two mechanical mi…

Personal and Social Consequences of Psychotropic Substance Use: A Population-Based Internet Survey

2022

Background and objectives: Drug abuse has become a major worldwide health concern among all age groups. The present study analyses substance misuse and its social and personal consequences using a population-based internet survey in Spain. Materials and Methods: Screening for drug abuse (of alcohol, marijuana/hashish and psychostimulants) and its related risks and problems was performed using the Car, Relax, Alone, Forget, Friends, Trouble (CRAFFT) score. Socio-demographic factors, depressive, anxiety and stress symptoms as well as health habits were also evaluated. We used Linear regression methods to compare each variable’s individual contribution so as to determine which one best explain…

Responses of Prunus ferganensis, Prunus persica and two interspecific hybrids to moderate drought stress

2003

Prunus ferganensis (Kost. & Riab) Kov. & Kost, a close relative of the cultivated peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.), is native to arid regions of central Asia and may possess traits valuable for improving drought tolerance of commercial peach varieties. One distinguishing feature of P. ferganensis is its prominent, elongated, unbranched leaf venation pattern, which behaves as a simple recessive trait in segregating populations of P. ferganensis x P. persica hybrids. To understand whether this trait could be used as a marker in breeding for drought tolerance, we investigated the association between leaf morphological and physiological parameters related to drought response in P. ferganensi…

Synthesis, characterization and study of covalently modified triazole LAPONITE® edges

2020

Abstract LAPONITE® (Lap) clay mineral was successful functionalized by triazole groups in a two steps procedure. First, the Lap edges were modified with 3-azidopropyltrimethoxysilane by traditional heating and microwave irradiation. Microwave irradiation allowed us to obtain high loading onto the Lap edges in lower times compared to those obtained through conventional method. Afterwards, the triazole moieties were obtained by reaction between azido functionalized Lap and propargyl alcohol. The successful functionalization of Lap was proved by thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering and ζ-potential measurements. Finally, the effects of the surface modificatio…
