Subdifferential and conjugate calculus of integral functions with and without qualification conditions

We characterize the subdifferential and the Fenchel conjugate of convex integral functions by means of respectively the approximate subdifferential and the conjugate of the associated convex normal integrands. The results are stated in Suslin locally convex spaces, and do not require continuity-type qualification conditions on the functions, nor special topological or algebraic structures on the index set. Consequently, when confined to separable Banach spaces, the characterizations of such a subdifferential are obtained using only the exact subdifferential of the given integrand but at nearby points. Design and prototyping of a magnetic actuator based permanent magnets for microbead navigation in viscous environment

International audience; For actuating the magnetic microrobots, two types of magnetic actuation technologies have been used during the last past years. These magnetic technologies may be either electromagnetic coils or permanent magnets based systems. This second solution is not the most used by researchers, because of the difficulties to control the magnetic force. In this paper we propose a magnetic actuator prototype based on permanent magnets. In addition to the magnets, the actuator is also composed of a mechanical structure. Bounded Computational Capacity Equilibrium

We study repeated games played by players with bounded computational power, where, in contrast to Abreu and Rubisntein (1988), the memory is costly. We prove a folk theorem: the limit set of equilibrium payoffs in mixed strategies, as the cost of memory goes to 0, includes the set of feasible and individually rational payoffs. This result stands in sharp contrast to Abreu and Rubisntein (1988), who proved that when memory is free, the set of equilibrium payoffs in repeated games played by players with bounded computational power is a strict subset of the set of feasible and individually rational payoffs. Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a personal goal-based intervention on school and football self-determination motivation and satisfaction of newcomers within football training centres. Twenty-three trainees were divided randomly into two groups, either a treatment group or a control group. The treatment proposed to the participants was the Personal Goal Management Program. Trainees’ school and football motivation and satisfaction were measured before, during and after the intervention. The More the Merrier? The Effect of Fertility Preference on Marriage Outcomes

This paper analyzes how fertility preference affects individuals' marriage outcomes. By using the selective Two-child Policy in China, which relaxed Han Chinese and only child's birth quota hence made them more attractive, I find that after the policy, the treatment group is more likely to marry same-type spouses to have more children. Moreover, to meet their fertility preference, Han Chinese and only child men searched longer and bought more expensive houses before marriage, and transferred more to their wives in terms of income and education.

The Upgrade of the ATLAS Level-1 Central Trigger Processor

The ATLAS Level-1 Central Trigger Processor (CTP) combines information from calorimeter and muon trigger processors as well as other sources and makes the final Level-1 Accept (L1A) decision. Due to the increasing luminosity of the LHC and the growing demands of physics and monitoring placed on the ATLAS Level-1 trigger system, the current CTP has reached its design limits. Therefore and in order to provide some margin for future operation, the CTP will be upgraded during the LHC shutdown of 2013/14.

Motion control with optimal nonlinear damping: from theory to experiment

Optimal nonlinear damping control was recently introduced for the second-order SISO systems, showing some advantages over a classical PD feedback controller. This paper summarizes the main theoretical developments and properties of the optimal nonlinear damping controller and demonstrates, for the first time, its practical experimental evaluation. An extended analysis and application to more realistic (than solely the double-integrator) motion systems are also given in the theoretical part of the paper. Analysis of relay-based feedback compensation of Coulomb friction

Standard problem of one-degree-of-freedom mechanical systems with Coulomb friction is revised for a relay-based feedback stabilization. It is recalled that such a system with Coulomb friction is asymptotically stabilizable via a relay-based output feedback, as formerly shown in [1]. Assuming an upper bounded Coulomb friction disturbance, a time-optimal gain of the relay-based feedback control is found by minimizing the derivative of the Lyapunov function proposed in [2] for the twisting algorithm.
