Ownership and Use of Commercial Physical Activity Trackers Among Finnish Adolescents: Cross-Sectional Study
2017
BackgroundMobile phone apps for monitoring and promoting physical activity (PA) are extremely popular among adults. Devices, such as heart rate monitors or sports watches (HRMs/SWs) that work with these apps are at sufficiently low costs to be available through the commercial markets. Studies have reported an increase in PA levels among adults with devices; however, it is unknown whether the phenomena are similar during early adolescence. At a time when adolescents start to develop their own sense of independence and build friendship, the ease of smartphone availability in developed countries needs to be investigated in important health promoting behaviors such as PA. ObjectiveThe objective…
Can Brief, Daily Training Using a Mobile App Help Change Maladaptive Beliefs? Crossover Randomized Controlled Trial
2019
BackgroundObsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a disabling condition with a wide variety of clinical presentations including contamination fears, fear of harm, and relationship-related obsessions. Cognitive behavioral models of OCD suggest that OC symptoms result from catastrophic misinterpretations of commonly occurring intrusive experiences and associated dysfunctional strategies used to manage them. OCD-related maladaptive beliefs including inflated responsibility, importance and control of thoughts, perfectionism, and intolerance for uncertainty increase the likelihood of such misinterpretations. ObjectiveConsidering accumulating evidence suggesting that mobile health (mHealth) apps b…
Understanding complaint channel usage in multichannel retailing
2019
Abstract This study aims to understand customer patterns of channel usage to voice complaints to multichannel retailers. Data were collected from multichannel shoppers for apparel in Spain by means of an online survey. Latent Class Analysis on complaint channel (store, website, mobile app and social media) usage was performed. The analysis identifies four customer segments that use complaint channels differently. Channel dependencies emerged, particularly related to mobile app usage. The study then explores how the identified patterns are related to channel usage for information search and purchase and to the quality of the relationship with the retailer. Results provide theoretical and man…
The effect of the valence of forgiveness to service recovery strategies and service outcomes in food delivery apps
2022
The literature offers valuable insights into various aspects of service recovery and service outcomes. However, the available findings are limited relative to the size of the ever-expanding service economy. In particular, past studies have left more granular nuances of the association between service recovery strategies and service outcomes, such as the mediating role of forgiveness or the valence of forgiveness, under-explored. Recognising that an improved understanding of recovery from failures is crucial for sustaining positive customer–brand relationships in the service economy, the present study investigates the mediating effect of the valence of forgiveness (both exoneration and resen…

2016
Weighted Evaluation Framework for Cross-Platform App Development Approaches
2016
Cross-platform app development is very challenging, although only two platforms with significant market share (iOS and Android) remain. While device fragmentation – multiple, only partly compatible versions of a platform – has been complicating matters already, the need to target different device classes is a new emergence. Smartphones and tablets are relatively similar but app-enabled devices such as TVs and even cars typically have differing capabilities. To facilitate usage of cross-platform app development approaches, we present work on an evaluation framework. Our framework provides a set of up-to-date evaluation criteria. Unlike prior work on this topic, it offers weighted assessment …
The Effectiveness of a Psycho-educational App to Reduce Sexist Attitudes in Adolescents
2019
Abstract The present study evaluates the effectiveness of an intervention using a mobile app game aimed at reducing sexism in adolescents. A quasiexperimental pretest–posttest study is executed with intervention and control groups. The participants are 369 secondary school students from the province of Valencia, of whom 196 are assigned to intervention and 173 to control group. Hostile and benevolent sexism are assessed at both points in time using theory of ambivalent sexism. The two hours’ intervention involved explaining the game's dynamic, implementation and use. The results of applying the programme are evaluated of the two dimensions of sexism in two time periods. Intervention with th…
Usage and Dose Response of a Mobile Acceptance and Commitment Therapy App: Secondary Analysis of the Intervention Arm of a Randomized Controlled Trial
2016
Background: Mobile phone apps offer a promising medium to deliver psychological interventions. A mobile app based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) was developed and studied in a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Objective: To study usage metrics of a mobile ACT intervention and dose-response relationship between usage and improvement in psychological flexibility. Methods: An RCT was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of different lifestyle interventions for overweight people with psychological stress. This paper presents a secondary analysis of the group that received an 8-week mobile ACT intervention. Most of the analyzed 74 participants were female (n=64, 86%). Their me…
Conveying Audience Emotions Through Humanoid Robot Gestures to an Orchestra During a Live Musical Exhibition
2017
In the last twenty years, robotics have been applied in many heterogeneous contexts. Among them, the use of humanoid robots during musical concerts have been proposed and investigated by many authors. In this paper, we propose a contribution in the area of robotics application in music, consisting of a system for conveying audience emotions during a live musical exhibition, by means of a humanoid robot. In particular, we provide all spectators with a mobile app, by means of which they can select a specific color while listening to a piece of music (act). Each color is mapped to an emotion, and the audience preferences are then processed in order to select the next act to be played. This dec…
M-App & Health Knowledge Management – Virtual Artfacts between Doctor & Patient
2018
Knowledge is more and more a strategic resource for health or- ganizations while information and communication technology earns an important role for sharing knowledge and informations among people in and out organizations. These conditions satisfy specific demands related to the new emerging information needs, asking for a change in relation- ships and effective communication. So, the Medicine Apps represent an emerging and rapidly developing framework for health system, able to contribute to its quality and efficiency. The same Union European and U.S. Supervisory Authority activated in the last years an appropriate study in order to control the Medical Applications downloaded directly thr…
