This article presents an enhanced system for real-time power flow monitoring and control (PFMC) for microgrids integration in medium-voltage (MV) distribution networks. A Generic Approach to Scheduling and Checkpointing Workflows

This work deals with scheduling and checkpointing strategies to execute scientific workflows on failure-prone large-scale platforms. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to target fail-stop errors for arbitrary workflows. Most previous work addresses soft errors, which corrupt the task being executed by a processor but do not cause the entire memory of that processor to be lost, contrarily to fail-stop errors. We revisit classical mapping heuristics such as HEFT and MinMin and complement them with several checkpointing strategies. Numerical Simulation of Thermal Effects in Coupled Optoelectronic Device-circuit Systems

The control of thermal effects becomes more and more important in modern semiconductor circuits like in the simplified CMOS transceiver representation described by U. Feldmann in the above article Numerical simulation of multiscale models for radio frequency circuits in the time domain. The standard approach for modeling integrated circuits is to replace the semiconductor devices by equivalent circuits consisting of basic elements and resulting in so-called compact models. Parasitic thermal effects, however, require a very large number of basic elements and a careful adjustment of the resulting large number of parameters in order to achieve the needed accuracy.

Despite the success of the combination of conservative schemes and staggered constrained transport algorithms in the last fifteen years, the accurate description of highly magnetized, relativistic flows with strong shocks represents still a challenge in numerical RMHD. An optimization approach for communal home meal delivery service

Abstract: This paper is the first to discuss the communal home meal delivery problem. The problem can be modelled as a multiple travelling salesman problem with time windows, that is closely related to the well-studied vehicle routing problem with time windows. Experimental results are reported for a real-life case study from Central Finland over several alternative scenarios using the SPIDER commercial solver. The comparison with current practice reveals that a significant savings potential can be obtained using off-the-shelf optimization tools. As such, the potential for supporting real-life communal routing problems can be considered to be important for VRP practitioners.
Enterprise Architecture Benefits: Perceptions from Literature and Practice

However, academic research has almost omitted the domain of EA benefits and value realization, and thus more research on the subject is needed. This paper describes a study which aims to chart the benefits of EA by a comprehensive literature review and a focus group interview of practitioners. As a result, a categorization of the EA benefits is composed and analyzed.
A Goal-Oriented Way to Define Metrics for an Enterprise Architecture Program

Anchoring symbols to conceptual spaces: the case of dynamic scenarios.

In recent years, there have been several proposals for the realization of models inspired to biological solutions for pattern recognition. In this work we propose a new approach, based on a hierarchical modular structure, to realize a system capable to learn by examples and recognize objects in digital images. The adopted techniques are based on multiresolution image analysis and neural networks. Performance on two different data sets and experimental timings on a single instruction multiple data (SIMD) machine are also reported.
Rural-cultural excursion conceptualization: A local tourism marketing management model based on tourist destination image measurement

Abstract Excursions to small, rural villages rich with historical heritage and architectural harmony are popular in Spain and other similar countries. This study presents a conceptualization and definition of this sort of tourism in rural-cultural destinations. In addition, it introduces a combination of variables that define the image of the destination, the characteristics of these types of trips, and characteristics of the rural-cultural tourist.
