Development of a TES based Cryo-Anticoincidence for a large array of microcalorimeters

The employment of large arrays of microcalorimeters in space missions (IXO, EDGE/XENIA)[1][2][3], requires the presence of an anticoincidence detector to remove the background due to the particles, with a rejection efficiency at least equal to Suzaku (98%) [1]. A new concept of anticoincidence is under development to match the very tight thermal requirements and to simplify the design of the electronic chain. The idea is to produce a Cryo-AntiCoincidence (Cryo-AC) based on a silicon absorber and read by a TES (Transition-Edge Sensor). Photon localization versus population trapping in a coupled-cavity array

We consider a coupled-cavity array (CCA), where one cavity interacts with a two-level atom under the rotating-wave approximation. We investigate the excitation transport dynamics across the array, which arises in the atom's emission process into the CCA vacuum. Due to the known formation of atom-photon bound states, partial field localization and atomic population trapping in general take place. We study the functional dependance on the coupling strength of these two phenomena and show that the threshold values beyond which they become significant are different. As the coupling strength grows from zero, field localization is exhibited first.

Millimeter VLBI of NGC 1052: Dynamics

The LINER galaxy NGC 1052 is an ideal target to study the innermost regions of active galactic nuclei (AGN), given its close distance of about 20 Mpc. The source was observed at 29 epochs from 2005 to 2009 with the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) at 43 GHz. Here, we present a kinematic study of its twin-jet system from a subset of 9 epochs at 43 GHz carried out in 2005 and 2006, finding a bright central feature as the dynamic center. The resulting mean velocities of β = v / c = 0 . 46 ± 0 . 08 and β = 0 . 69 ± 0 . 02 for the western and eastern jet, respectively, give hints towards higher velocities in the eastern jet.

r-Indexing the eBWT

The extended Burrows Wheeler Transform (\(\mathrm {eBWT}\)) was introduced by Mantaci et al. [TCS 2007] to extend the definition of the \(\mathrm {BWT}\) to a collection of strings. In our prior work [SPIRE 2021], we give a linear-time algorithm for the \(\mathrm {eBWT}\) that preserves the fundamental property of the original definition (i.e., the independence from the input order). The algorithm combines a modification of the Suffix Array Induced Sorting (SAIS) algorithm [IEEE Trans Comput 2011] with Prefix Free Parsing [AMB 2019; JCB 2020]. High-spin states in the neutron-rich A∼100 region

Two experimental setups have been used to study excited states of neutron‐rich nuclei in the A∼100 region. Extended level schemes and lifetime measurements were obtained using deep‐inelastic and fusion‐fission reactions with the CLARA‐PRISMA spectrometer and the Ge‐array GASP respectively. Experimental information from GASP has been used to complement the CLARA‐PRISMA experiment. Time spectra have been used to measure the lifetimes of isomeric states. Preliminary results are presented for 89Rb.

Mature grapevine berries at the harvesting stage (MB) are very susceptible to the gray mold fungus Botrytis cinerea, while veraison berries (VB) are not. We conducted simultaneous microscopic and transcriptomic analyses of the pathogen and the host to investigate the infection process developed by B. cinerea on MB versus VB, and the plant defense mechanisms deployed to stop the fungus spreading. An FPGA-based design for real-time Super Resolution Reconstruction

Since several decades, the camera spatial resolution is gradually increasing with the CMOS technology evolution. The image sensors provide more and more pixels, generating new constraints for the suitable optics. As an alternative, promising solutions propose Super Resolution (SR) image reconstruction to extend the image size without modifying the sensor architecture. Real-time Sub-pixel Cross Bar Position Metrology

Many measurement application fields need to calculate cross bar intersection locations of horizontal and vertical bars. The system we developed and that we present in this paper is an embedded system that measures cross bar positions with sub-pixel accuracy on 1024×1024 pixel images delivered by a camera at a 50 MHz data rate in real time. This is done using an algorithm that looks for intersection areas and then locally calculates two lines representing horizontal and vertical bars.
