Summary Common autoimmune disorders tend to co-exist in the same subjects and cluster in families. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of autoimmune co-morbidity in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) with and without thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO). Autoimmune associations in myasthenia gravis (MG)-patients and their relatives have not been re-assessed since their separation into early- or late-onset MG (EOMG, LOMG), or thymoma-associated MG. Here, we analysed 226 EOMG-, 97 LOMG-, and 150 thymoma-patients for autoimmune disorders in themselves and their relatives. The objective of this interrupted time series clinical trial was to evaluate the effect of a distal weight-bearing implant on well-being in patients with transfemoral amputations using the visual analog scale (VAS). A total of 29 patients from five hospitals with previous transfemoral amputations were surgically implanted with an osseoanchored implant with a distal spacer that allows a direct load on the residuum over the distal surface of the socket. Objective The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy and safety of fumaric acid esters (FAEs) in patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). Methods In this 24-week, prospective, open-label, phase II pilot study, 11 patients with CLE, refractory to topical corticosteroids, were included. The primary endpoint of the study was the evaluation of the efficacy of FAEs after 24 weeks of treatment as assessed by the Revised Cutaneous Lupus Disease Area and Severity Index (RCLASI). A campylobacter-like organism was isolated from an effusion of the left knee joint of an AIDS patient 2 weeks after bacteremia with a morphologically identical organism. Amplified genomic 16S rRNA sequences were analyzed by a nonradioactive blotting technique. The closest match was found with Helicobacter fenelliae (97.7% homology). Sequence data and phenotype suggest that the isolate may represent a so far unrecognized species of the genus Helicobacter.

Summary Microvascular involvement represents one of the first apparent steps in many autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Early in the disease, peripheral microangiopathy may be easily recognized and studied by videocapillaroscopy. The aim of this study has been to observe the differences in labial microcirculation between healthy patients and patients suffering from RA. A total of 30 healthy patients and 30 patients suffering from RA were examined.
