Technique and safety aspects of resistance exercises: a systematic review of the literature.

A systematic review of the scientific literature was conducted to identify the optimal ranges of motion for preventing injury in the main joints of the body during resistance exercise performance. These ranges of motion are independent of the type in which the resistance exercises could be applied (ie, adults, elderly, athletes, recreational exercisers), and the regions examined include the shoulder, spine, and knee, which are injured most often. It can be concluded that during the performance of any resistance exercise, it is possible to put anatomical structures at risk with certain body positions; therefore, it is necessary to understand these movements so injury can be avoided.

Leg extension power asymmetry and mobility limitation in healthy older women

Objective To investigate the association of asymmetry in leg extension power (LEP) with walking and standing balance. Design Cross-sectional analysis. Setting Research laboratory. Participants Healthy female twins (N=419), ages 63 to 75 years. Interventions Not applicable. Main Outcome Measures The LEP difference between the stronger and the weaker leg, measured with the Nottingham power rig, was calculated. Ten-meter maximal walking velocity was assessed in a laboratory corridor on a wide (170cm) and narrow (35cm) track, and the ability to maintain tandem stance for 20 seconds was recorded. The efficacy of radiosynoviorthesis in the management of chronic haemophilic synovitis has been proven. Like replacement therapy, however, this procedure has no effect on muscle strength or endurance, range of movement, coordination, or the patient's physical condition in general. All the factors just enumerated are essential for the recovery and maintenance of the haemophiliac's quality of life. That is why rehabilitation and physiotherapy are so important, since no medical therapy or surgical procedure are by themselves capable of preventing disabilities.

To analyze trunk muscle function pre- and postoperatively in patients undergoing lumbar spine fusion. Associations between changes in trunk muscle strength and disability were also studied.A total of 114 patients undergoing lumbar spine fusion participated in the study.
