Il testo tratta dell'Archivio di disegni di architettura degli esponenti della famiglia Palazzotto di Palermo. Viene innanzitutto ricostruita la storia della letteratura periegetica sull'archivio, a partire dalle fonti nel XIX secolo fino alle pubblicazioni che nel corso del tempo ne hanno sempre più circostanziato i materiali. Contestualmente sono stati messi in evidenza i contributi dei principali studiosi che hanno compulsato le carte, la consistenza dell'archivio e il ruolo degli ordinatori dei fondi. Il contributo si conclude con le biografie critiche dei principali architetti rappresentati nell'archivio dal XIX secolo a Palermo.

Si esaminano i disegni di Giacomo Amato conservati nel Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe della Galleria Regionale della Sicilia di Palazzo Abatellis e si analizzano quelli legati alle opere d'arte decorativa, in particolar modo quelli destinati al rinnovamento degli altari e dei relativi arredi mettendo in luce la ricchezza delle suppellettili liturgiche del tardo Barocco palermitano. Si ricostruisce inoltre l'attività di poco note figure di argentieri attivi a Palermo.

The Nineteenth-Century rediscovery of the Oratory of S. Giorgio offers the opportunity to question the conservation methods, historical analysis and creative reception of fourteenth-century painting. This essay reconstructs the historical circumstances of the discovery of Altichiero’s frescoes and the consequent discussions among connoisseurs concerning the autography and the cultural value of the same. Through the study of sources and their contextualisation with the panorama of artistic literature of the time, the article aims to present the figure of Emily Nevill Jackson, an English scholar of the Decorative Arts active in London between the end of the 19th century and the first thirty years of the 20th century. “A student in Sicily” by Emily Nevill Jackson, published in 1926, represents the first real general survey of Sicilian Decorative Arts. In it, the author describes in detail works, typologies, materials, techniques and collections with a meticulousness and precision that would only be fully reflected and scientifically formulated in later studies. After reconstructing the figure of the scholar, the book examines Jackson's text on the works of Decorative Arts, contextualising it with the most recent scientific studies on the works themselves.

The attention that is dedicated to the Decorative Arts in the travelers' diaries is much inferior in comparison to that one turned to the archaeology, to the painting or to the sculpture. As far as jewelry is concerned, in particular, the growing admiration for the craftsman's mastery was flanked by the traditional consideration of its splendor as a status symbol and the ancestral conception of precious stones as bearers of particular magical or apotropaic powers.
