Narratives of children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder: A meta-analysis

Abstract Background The aim of this meta-analysis was to analyze the narrative performance of children and adolescents with high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in terms of microstructure, macrostructure and internal state language. Method A systematic literature search yielded 24 studies that met the predetermined inclusion criteria. Effect sizes for each study were calculated for eight variables and analyzed using a random effects model. Intellectual ability, age and type of narrative were considered as potential moderators. Purpose: The importance of dental care and oral hygiene is often underestimated in people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Comorbidity with dental anxiety is greater in ASD subjects who also show unusual reactions to sensory stimuli. The aim of our study was to assess the efficacy for a sensory-adapted environment and targeted methods in reducing anxiety and positively influencing cooperation in children with ASD during a dental examination or specific treatments. El objetivo de esta tesis es proponer un sistema de detección temprana de TEA (12 a 48 meses) dirigido a población guayaquileña de escasos recursos. Se seleccionaron dos instrumentos (M- CHAT R/F y ADEC), considerando su costo y carga administrativa y propiedades psicométricas. Luego de su adaptación se aplicaron a una muestra de 613 niños (305 F, 308 M/ 12 a 48 m), usando Escala de Bayley III y M-CHAT-R en el nivel 1, el M-CHAT-R/F y ADEC en el nivel 2. Se administró como Gold Standard el ADOS-2, confirmándose el diagnóstico de 23 niños (3.75%).
