Clinical pharmacokinetics of atenolol — A review

1982

Atenolol is a hydrophilic betareceptor blocking drug, which is predominantly eliminated via the kidneys, only about 5% of the atenolol is metabolised by the liver. After oral administration atenolol is incompletely absorbed from the intestine, so about 50% of the beta blocker are finally biovailable. In plasma only 3% of atenolol are protein-bound. There exists a linear relationship between the atenolol plasma levels and the degree of beta blocking effect measured by inhibition of the exercise-induced tachycardia. No correlation was found between plasma levels of atenolol and blood pressure lowering activity of the drug. After oral administration elimination half life of atenolol is calcula…

Dietary Intake, Serum Hormone Concentrations, Amenorrhea and Bone Mineral Density of Physique Athletes and Active Gym Enthusiasts

2023

As the diet, hormones, amenorrhea, and bone mineral density (BMD) of physique athletes (PA) and gym enthusiasts (GE) are little-explored, we studied those in 69 females (50 PA, 19 GE) and 20 males (11 PA, 9 GE). Energy availability (EA, kcal·kgFFM−1·d−1 in DXA) in female and male PA was ~41.3 and ~37.2, and in GE ~39.4 and ~35.3, respectively. Low EA (LEA) was found in 10% and 26% of female PA and GE, respectively, and in 11% of male GE. In PA, daily protein intake (g/kg body mass) was ~2.9–3.0, whereas carbohydrate and fat intakes were ~3.6–4.3 and ~0.8–1.0, respectively. PA had higher protein and carbohydrate and lower fat intakes than GE (p &lt…

The association between parental education, living arrangements and dietary habits among overweight and obese Norwegian children aged 6-10 years : “F…

2016

Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Children´s dietary patterns have changed the passed decades. Children are more overweight and obese, and social inequalities related to this topic are discussed among all societies. The purpose of the master thesis was to explore the association between the sociodemographic factors parental education and living arrangements and the availability and intake of selected food items and total energy intake and macronutrient intake among overweight and obese Norwegian children aged 6-10 years. The thesis is an extension of the theory that is used in the article. This thesis begins with an introduction, which further expands to the ela…

Impacts of reduced Lepidurus arcticus availability on brown trout life history traits in a mountain reservoir

2020

Lepidurus arcticus (the Arctic tadpole shrimp) is a vulnerable keystone species in Arctic and alpine water bodies where its occurrence and population size may influence the viability and life history traits of resident salmonids. Using data from a Norwegian mountain hydropower reservoir, Aursjoen, we illustrate how reduced availability of L. arcticus as prey resulted in the reduced condition, growth and delayed maturation of resident brown trout (Salmo trutta). We further link changes in the relative abundance of L. arcticus as prey to changing reservoir conditions, e.g. water level changes in the spring period, thereby establishing an indirect link between reservoir operation regimes and b…

On the degree of binder activity of reclaimed asphalt and degree of blending with recycling agents

2020

It is common practice to assume full blending of the aged binder of reclaimed asphalt (RA) within the design of new asphalt mixtures. Although being practical, this assumption has often led designers to asphalt mixtures lacking binder. Hence, going towards recycled asphalt mixtures (RAM) there is a need to have a better understanding of the blending phenomena, to have a general agreement on terminology and finally adapting RA classification and mix design procedures accordingly. This manuscript aims at being both a reference and stimulus for the scientific community to work in this direction and on this basis provides a nomenclature and a theoretical framework of the blending phenomena. The…

An equation to calculate the availability for the k-out-of-n system

2016

Reliability and availability (R&A) analyses are primary phases in management of complex systems and play a fundamental role in products and services quality. Management of maintenance activities has to be based on optimisation to simultaneously improve the operative conditions of the system. Maintenance optimization can be effeectively pursued by the RCM (Reliability-centered maintenance) approach. The authors demonstrate the global improvement of R&A by applying the RCM to the results derived by the FMECA (Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis). Many efforts have been made to improve traditional methodologies of analysis, mainly tending to reduce the imprecision on data related to…

Dyvalocca : un projet pour l'étude des nuages bas de saison sèche sur la façade atlantique de l'Afrique centrale et de leur impact bioclimatique sur …

2020

Low-level clouds are key components of the climate but are not well represented in weather and climate models. Recently it has been shown that an extensive low-level cloud cover develops during the June-September main dry season in western equatorial Africa, from the coastal plains of Gabon and Congo-Brazzaville to the inland plateaus downstream of the low-mountain crests. Such a cloudy main dry season is unique in the moist Tropics and is likely to explain the presence of the densest and evergreen forests of Central Africa as evapotranspiration is low and the quality of light is high. The ANR-DFG funded “DYVALOCCA” project will conduct from 2020 to 2022 a field campaign, raise existing in-…
